Cities Skylines and Farming Simulator 19 are May’s PlayStation Plus games, Sony has announced. City-building title Cities Skylines is currently priced at $39.99/£34.99 on thePlayStationStore, while Farming Simulator 19 costs $39.99/£39.99. April’s PlayStation Plus games,Uncharted4 and Dirt Rally 2.0, are available until May 4. The figures were announced by PlayStation bossJim Ryanduring Sony’s CES 2020 press conference, which was also used to reveal thePS5logo and promise fans the console will deliver “the biggest and best” in content....

Microsoft has made an unspecified number of layoffs across several divisions. According to Business Insider, the cuts will impact employees in theXboxmaker’s security, sales and gaming businesses. A spokesperson for the companyreportedly saidthe layoffs were small in number but didn’t confirm a figure. The latest round of layoffs are separate from performance-based job cutsMicrosoftmade across departments last week. Those cuts will affect less than 1% of its employees, which numbered 228,000 at the end of June 2024, according to aCNBCsource....

Rez and Tetris Effect creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi has confirmed he’s started work on a synaesthesia-style game for next-gen consoles, and described it as a follow-up to Rez Infinite’s Area X level. Synaesthesia, which is the concept of mixing together senses such as sight and sound, has been the basis for all of Mizuguchi’s recent games including Lumines, Child of Eden andTetris Effect: Connected–a multiplayer update released alongside Xbox Series X/S....

Academy award-nominated screenwriter Jon Spaihts has signed up to pen Netflix’s Gears of War live-action movie. Most recently, Spaihts was Oscar-nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for Dune, which he co-wrote with director Denis Villeneuve and Eric Roth. He’s also co-wrote the upcoming sequel, and his previous credits include Prometheus, Doctor Strange, Passengers and The Mummy. “Gears of Waris one of the all-time great action games, with vivid characters, a beautifully designed world and a combat system that drives home the lethality of war and the importance of standing by your squadmates,” Spaihts toldNetflix....

The latest free Epic Games Store titles have been confirmed. GodfallChallenger Edition and Prison Architect will be free to download from December 9-16. They will replace Dead by Daylight and While True: learn(), which are currently free to download until December 9. Godfall: Challenger Edition was announced on Wednesday, when it was alsoconfirmed as one of December’s PlayStation Plus games. Challenger Edition doesn’t include the story content of the base game and its Fire & Darkness expansion, but allows players to dive straight into Godfall’s trio of endgame modes (Lightbringer,Dreamstones, Ascended Tower of Trials)....

Ubisoft has released a new Star Wars Outlaws trailer focused on the game’s post-launch content. The open world title, which is set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, is coming toPS5,Xbox Series X/SandPCon August 30. However, players who purchase the Gold or Ultimate editions of the game, which include its season pass, will receive up to three days of early access. Nintendo has filed a trademark application for the term ‘NSW’ in Europe. As spotted onResetera, the company filed the trademark application with the European Union Intellectual Property Office today, under the Goods and Services category (specifically, the ‘electronic game programs’ and ‘games’ descriptors). It’s not yet clear why the application was filed, but it may be an attempt to claim ownership of an abbreviation which is regularly used to describe theNintendo Switch....

Nintendo is ending its Gold Points scheme on My Nintendo next month. The company launched its MyNintendorewards programme in 2016 alongside the new Nintendo Account system, allowing players to earn Gold andPlatinumPoints which could be exchanged for physical and digital goods. While Platinum Points are earned by performing various tasks, Gold Points are earned by buying software, and can then be spent on discounts for future eShop purchases. While Platinum Points will continue, Nintendo has now announced that Gold Points will end next month....

Nintendo has revealed its disaster plan, should a major earthquake ever affect its Kyoto, Japan headquarters. As much as 18.5% of the world’s earthquakes take place in Japan, despite its land only covering 0.25% of the planet, according to the country’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Tourism. In ashareholder Q&Aduring its recent Annual General Meeting, the company was asked what its Business Continuity Plan was should there ever be a natural disaster that severely impacted its HQ....

Sony has confirmed that the next PlayStation State of Play presentation will take place tomorrow. The presentation, which will last more than 40 minutes, will be streamed on June 4 at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm BST. The Pokemon Company has announced Pokemon Legends Z-A, a new game for Nintendo Switch. Announced during Pokemon Presents on Tuesday, the game will take place in the Kalos Region, the setting of Pokemon X&Y. The game will be released in 2025. Mega Evolutions were teased at the end of the brief trailer, suggesting the mechanic, which has been missing from the series for over a decade, will finally return....

The Pokémon Company has announced a new game, Pokémon Champions, which will be released on both Switch and mobile devices. “This title will be focused on thePokémonbattles you know from the Pokémon games,”The Pokémon Companysaid. “We’re aiming for these core-style battles to be enjoyed by more people.” The game’s planning is being handled byGame Freakand development will be handled Pokémon Works.
