The Pokémon Company is expected to announce new games this week, as the series celebrates its 25thanniversary on February 27. According to sources cited by fan siteCentro Pokémonlast month, remakes ofNintendo DSgames Diamond and Pearl are part of this year’s release plans. The publication recentlyreiteratedits claims on Twitter, that it expected the games to be announced before the 27th(this weekend). Originally released in 2006,PokémonDiamond and Pearl were the first instalments in the fourth generation of the Pokémon video game series....

The next expansion to the Pokémon Trading Card game, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet – Surging Sparks, has been announced. The set will feature over 250 cards, making it one of the largest sets ever. New Tera Pokemon will be included, as will further ACE SPEC cards, which have been a popular addition to the competitive side of the trading card game. The set will be released on November 8. “Terawatts of electricity crash down from the sky in a tropical paradise, setting the stage for the supercharged Pikachu ex,” reads a description for the new set....

Control studio Remedy Entertainment has signed publishing agreements with Epic Games for the company’s next two unannounced games. Epic Games Publishing was announced on Thursdayand claimed to have “the most developer-friendly terms in the industry.” Remedy’sSam Lakesaid of the deal: “Epicunderstands what it takes to make a big game. They want to give us full creative freedom....

The building widely agreed to be Nintendo’s original headquarters is being re-opened as a hotel in April, and is taking reservations now. The hotel, which will be named Marufukuro in honour of one ofNintendo‘s previous brands, will have 18 rooms, it was announced this week. Marufukuro refers to Marufuku Nintendo Co, the company set up by Nintendo in 1947 to sell its playing cards. This name was then changed to Nintendo Playing Card Co in 1951....

Romero Games, the Ireland-based studio founded by celebrated designers John and Brenda Romero, has now completely closed following this week’s Microsoft cuts, it’s claimed. On Wednesday,the studio confirmed it had lost fundingfor its unannounced shooter project, after an unnamed publisher, later named asMicrosoft, pulled a publishing agreement. It later emerged that employees had lost their jobs after they posted messages on LinkedIn. Now, one employee has claimed the studio has been closed entirely, with all of its over 100 staff members losing their jobs....

Sega has promised a “significant increase in new titles” by the end of March 2023, including new remakes and remasters of its classic games. In a presentation detailing its results for the fiscal year ending March 2022, parent companySegaSammy reported strong sales of console andPC games, citing increased profits compared to FY2021 and forecasting even higher numbers for FY2023. It puts this forecast down to a “significant increase in titles”, as well as continued revenue from the “large number of new titles” released during FY2022....

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 will be a digital-only release, Xbox has confirmed. In a new blog about the game on the officialXboxWire website,Ninja Theorystudio headDom Matthewsstated that the game would not be getting a physical release, and would be available for $49.99. “Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II will be a game crafted from the heart – a game similar in length to the first Hellblade, with a focused narrative, and sold digital-only at a price of $49....

September’s PlayStation Plus games have seemingly been revealed ahead of Sony’s official announcement. According toDealabs– a site with a strong track record for revealing PS Plus games early – September’s free titles will be Overcooked! All You Can Eat forPlayStation 5, andHitman 2and Predator: Hunting Grounds forPS4(which are also playable on the newer console via backwards compatibility). Sony will reportedly close the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita and PlayStation Portable stores permanently this summer. Citing an unnamed source,TheGamerclaims Sony will shut thePS3andPSPonline marketplaces on July 2, followed by thePS Vitastore on August 27. After the closures, players will no longer be able to buy digital games or DLC for the three platforms. Sony is reportedly planning to announce the plans this month. VGC has contacted the company for comment....

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the fastest selling PlayStation Studios game in history, according to Sony. A tweet on the officialPlayStationTwitter account stated that the game had “sold through” 2.5 million copies in its first 24 hours. “Great news, Spidey fans,” the tweet reads, “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2has sold more than 2.5 million copies in the first 24 hours. Thanks for making this a high-flying launch!” Crucially, the number specifically refers to copies “sold through” as opposed to shipped....

Insomniac Games has confirmed that Spider-Man Miles Morales saves will be transferable from the PS4 version of the game to the PS5 one. Sonysaid this month that Miles Morales will be released for its current-gen console in addition to the previously announcedPS5version, with a free upgrade path between the two versions. Insomniac Gamescommunity director James Stevenson has now confirmed that players moving from one console to the next will be able to bring their save file with them too, although it wasn’t explained exactly how this will work....
