Team17 is celebrating the 25thanniversary of its iconic Worms franchise on Tuesday, with a number of promotions planned to mark the occasion. Worms first launched on July 10, 2025 on the Commodore Amiga and has gone on to sell more than 75 million copies across many different instalments. The strategy title was originally produced as ‘Total Wormage’ by creator Andy Davidson. The co-creator and co-writer of the upcoming TV adaptation of The Last of Us has claimed its source material is the greatest ever story in a video game. The director of Until Dawn and The Quarry has revealed he’s working on another full-scale horror title, which is tentatively planned for release by 2026. Supermassive is known for its branching narrative adventures within the horror genre. Over the past decade, the BAFTA-winning UK studio has released both larger games (Until Dawn, The Quarry) and a series of smaller, episodic titles underneath The Dark Pictures banner. Speaking to VGC in a recent interview, studio director Will Byles – who directed both of Supermassive’s larger horror games – confirmed it was his intention to continue creating full-scale narrative adventures with the same genre....

Production has begun on the Watch Dogs movie, Ubisoft has confirmed. Featuring an original story, the film will co-star Sophie Wilde (Talk to Me) and Tom Blyth (Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes), and be directed by French genre director Mathieu Turi (The Deep Dark). Ubisofthas released three entries in the action adventure game franchise: 2014’sWatch Dogs, 2016’sWatch Dogs 2and 2020’s Watch Dogs: Legion. “Each game features different stories in a world where hacker rebels attempt to fight injustices enabled by CTOS, a digital information system that links entire cities onto a single network,” according to the publisher....

Bandai Namco has celebrated the 45th anniversary of Pac-Man by revealing the maze sections in its upcoming spin-off Shadow Labyrinth. Revealed at The Game Awardslast December, Shadow Labyrinth is a sci-fi themed 2D action platformer described as “a genre-twisting alternate take” on Pac-Man. The player takes on the role of Swordsman No 8, who has to consume everything they can to survive in a hostile alien world. The Swordsman is accompanied by Puck, a “mysterious yet recognizable figure who teaches them that their aim in this treacherous world is to escape it”....

Ubisoft has revealed Rainbow Six Mobile, a free-to-play FPS coming to iOS and Android devices. Promising “a true Tom Clancy’sRainbow Six Siegeexperience, where tactical gameplay meets fast-paced action”, development of the title is being led by a new team atUbisoft Montreal. The game’s core mode, Attack vs. Defense, sees two teams of five players facing off against each other. Attackers deploy drones to help formulate a plan before attempting to breach destructible walls, floors and ceilings, while defenders can use barricades to fortify their location and spy cameras and traps to try and gain an advantage in battle....

EA will reveal the UFC 4 game at the MMA firm’s next event on Saturday, July 11. The news was confirmed in a poster published by the UFC, in which it confirms theEA Sportstitle will debut a reveal trailer. UFC 4 has not yet been officially announced, although a logo for the gamewas discovered on PlayStation’s serverslast month. EAalso invited community players to join aPS4andXbox Oneclosed beta test for “the next UFC game” in June....

Sony sold almost twice as many PlayStation 5 consoles in the UK last month as it did during the same period last year. GamesIndustry.bizreports that UKPS5sales in January 2023 were up 98% over those in January 2022. The most likely reason for the surge is the more widespread availability of the PS5 – whereas stock shortages made the console hard to find a year ago, now anyone looking to buy a PS5 can do so with far less hassle....

Unity has sought to clarify plans to charge an install fee for games made using its tools after its announcement of the move sparked a backlash from developers. Starting in January 2024,the new Unity Runtime Feewill apply to games that meet a minimum revenue threshold and have passed a minimum lifetime install count. The announcement sparked outrage among some members of the development community, who said the new fee structure was ill-conceived, unfavourable to game makers, and could be open to abuse....

US video game trade group the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has warned that the trade tariffs imposed by US president Donald Trump “are going to have a real and detrimental impact” on the games industry. Trump has been imposing tariffs on numerous countries in recent weeks, including a sizeable tariff on China, where tech products are often manufactured. On Wednesday he also introduced a blanket 10% tariff on all imports, with countries like China, Vietnam and Japan – which Trump calls among “the worst offenders” – getting larger tariffs of 54%, 46% and 24% respectively....
