Sony’s Bend Studio has distanced itself from controversial comments made this week by Days Gone writer and director John Garvin. Earlier this week, Garvin was asked why he thought the post-apocalypticPS4biker game didn’t get more praise when it was first released in 2019. In his response,Garvin blamed the game’s middling critical receptionon technical issues, critics who “couldn’t be bothered to actually play the game”, and “woke reviewers who couldn’t handle a gruff white biker looking at his date’s ass”....

Sony Interactive Entertainment has claimed a “technical error” was to blame for charges made to PlayStation Plus users in Asia who had previously purchased discounted memberships. The company’s revampedPlayStationPlus service began rolling out in Asia this week with some unwelcome surprises for many customers. Chief among the complaints levelled atSonywas that users who had previously purchased PlayStation Plus subscriptions at a discounted pricewere being charged extra to upgrade to a different service tier, wiping out savings they originally made buying reduced cost memberships....

The release date for Star Wars Outlaws has seemingly been leaked. According to a description for a forthcoming trailer on theUbisoft Japan YouTube channel, the game will be released on May 10, 2025. It was also revealed in the description that players who purchase the game’s Gold or Ultimate edition will receive three days of early access in addition to other digital goods. The newStar Wars Outlawsstory trailer will premiere today, 9AM PST / 6PM CET....

Starfield reviews have started going live ahead of the game’s release next week. US consumers spent a record total on video game hardware, content and accessories in 2020, according to market research firm NPD Group. Total sales tracked by the company came in at $56.9 billion last year, which was 27% higher than in 2019. December 2020 spending across hardware, content and accessories also hit a record $7.7 billion, 25% higher than in 2019. Nintendo Switchand Call of Duty games were the star performers in 2020, NPD analystMat Piscatellasaid on Friday....

Take-Two has announced plans to launch a new franchise from Borderlands developer Gearbox Software during the publisher’s current fiscal year ending on May 20, 2025. The company said on Tuesday that it intends to release 21 games during its current fiscal year, including four “immersive core” games – two from “proven” franchises and two from “new” ones, according to CEOStrauss Zelnick. Gearbox’s new game, which was mentioned during the publisher’s full-year earnings call, presumably fits into the “immersive core” category....

The Nintendo designer who created the appearance of the NES and North American SNES has retired after nearly 39 years. Lance Barr joinedNintendoof America in December 1982 and worked there until last month, when he finally decided to leave the company. On hisLinkedIn page, Barr states: “After almost 39 years at Nintendo, I am retiring and moving onto ‘other’ projects.” As the design and brand director at Nintendo of America, Barr was responsible for the designs of a number of Nintendo products....

The Super Mario Bros. Movie has reportedly become the second highest-grossing animated film ever at the global box office. According toThe Numbers, a site which collates movie ticket sales data, the Mario movie has grossed $1,294,577,622 at cinemas worldwide since its release in early April. That means it’s overtaken Disney’s Frozen ($1,284,540,518) and trails only Frozen II ($1,453,683,476) on the list of the highest-grossing animated films of all time....

Nintendo has announced the main cast list for the upcoming Super Mario animated movie and confirmed a North American release of June 27, 2025. Chris Pratt will play Mario in the Illumination-produced movie, as opposed to Mario’s usual voice actor Charles Martinet, Mario creatorShigeru Miyamotoconfirmed in aNintendo Directon Thursday. Martinet will, however, have some cameo roles in the film. In addition, Anya Taylor-Joy (Queen’s Gambit) has been cast as Princess Peach, Charlie Day (Horrible Bosses) as Luigi and Jack Black as Bowser....
