A senior executive at Disney’s games operation has suggested that the company could be open to licensing more of its properties to external game developers. Citing the successful releases ofEA’sJedi: Fallen OrderandSony’s Marvel Spider-man, Disney’s games VP Sean Shoptaw told attendees at the 2020DICESummit it places importance on “reimagining” its properties in games. The Disney exec reportedly invited game developers in the room and throughout the industry to “come and play” with its extensive catalogue of franchises....

Universal Studios Japan officially unveiled the entrance to its Donkey Kong Country area on Wednesday, and allowed the first invited guests to experience the Super Nintendo World expansion. Donkey Kong Country – which is also due to open in Florida, USA next year – officially welcomes the public in Osaka, Japan from July 26, 2025. Plans to release Dying Light: Platinum Edition have seemingly leaked via a Microsoft Store listing for the game. Billed as “the richest version” of 2015’s open-world zombie survival title, Dying Light:PlatinumEdition includes the base game, “all four major DLCs and seventeen skin bundles”. The product listing, which was available to view on Monday morning but has since been pulled, didn’t carry a price tag, but it did have a release date of May 27, suggesting publisherTechlandcould make an official announcement imminently....

The European Union has found that Microsoft’s proposed $7.5 billion acquisition of ZeniMax could fall within its competition regulations, but no final decision has been made on the deal. Digital publisher Ziff Davis is suing OpenAI, accusing it of widespread copyright infringement. The publisher – which lists IGN, Eurogamer, GamesIndustry.biz, Digital Foundry, Rock Paper Shotgun, VG247 and Hookshot (which operatesNintendolife, PushSquare, PureXbox and Time Extension) among its brands – sued the ChatGPT company on Thursday, theNew York Timesreports. The lawsuit, which was filed in OpenAI’s registered state of Delaware, says the company “intentionally and relentlessly reproduced exact copies and created derivatives of Ziff Davis works”, and by doing so infringed on its copyrights and diluted its trademarks....

Sledgehammer Games appears to have suggested that field of view customisation could be coming to future console versions of Call of Duty. The much-requested feature was seemingly teased by the studio’s senior development director Adam Iscove on Tuesday, following a live stream reveal of new gameCall of Duty: Vanguard’s multiplayer. A higher field of view allows players to see more within their peripheral vision, thus offering a competitive advantage in terms of spotting enemies and items....

A mod for the PC version of Judgment has restored the likeness of an actor who was removed from the game’s original release due to drug charges. As spotted byPCGamesN, a user onNexus Modshas released a mod for the game which reinstates Pierre Taki as the voice actor and likeness of Kyohei Hamura. Taki was originally featured in the first release of the game onPS4in Japan, but when the actor was arrested and charged with drug-related offences,Segahalted sales of the game and replaced him with Miou Tanaka....
