The author behind the Metro series of books and video games is wanted by Russian authorities after it was claimed he spread false information about Russia’s armed forces. Dmitry Glukhovsky, whose book led to the Metro 2033 game and who contributed to its sequels Last Light and Exodus, was sentenced to eight years in prison by a Moscow court, according toThe AP. Activision has offered the first proper look at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s multiplayer maps. The game will feature updated versions of all 16 launch maps from 2009’sModern Warfare2. Need For Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered will be added to the EA Play and Xbox Game Pass libraries on June 24. Featuring cross-platform multiplayer support on all platforms, the game was released in November 2020 forPS4,Xbox One,PCandSwitch. Remastered by Stellar Entertainment, the studio behind Burnout Paradise Remastered, it includes all the original game’s post-launch content, like the Armed and Dangerous and Lamborghini Untamed modes. It also added new achievements, car colours, reduced hard stops, an updated photo mode and various quality of life updates....

Streaming giant Netflix has officially confirmed it’s expanding into video games. In its latest financial results published on Tuesday, the company said it was currently “in the early stages” of expanding into games, building on its earlier efforts around interactive television (like Black Mirror Bandersnatch) and its Stranger Things games. Games will be included in members’Netflixsubscription at no additional cost, the company said, and initially it will be “primarily” focused on games for mobile devices....

Plans to release Lego sets based on Nintendo’s Animal Crossing series have officially been confirmed. Nintendo has announced party game sequel Everybody 1-2-Switch. Set for release on June 30, the title is a follow-up to 1-2-Switch, which was released in March 2017 as a launch title forNintendo’s latest console and has gone on to sell over 3.5 million copies. Over 1000 Activision Blizzard employees have signed an open letter to the company’s management, criticising its response to a recent discrimination and harassment lawsuit. The letter, shared byKotaku, was originally written by over 800 employees from across all of the company and its subsidiaries, and over the weekend has been gathering more signatures. Last week the company was sued by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) because ofits reported failure to handle sexual harassment and discriminationagainst female employees....

Over an hour of Rainbow Six: Parasite gameplay has been posted online, after users live streamed footage from Ubisoft’s private technical test. Paradox Interactive and subsidiary Harebrained Schemes have announced plans to “part ways”. According to a joint press release from the companies, “the separation is the result of a mutual agreement, stemming from each party’s strategic and creative priorities”.
