Nintendo has announced that it plans to acquire Japanese CG company Dynamo Pictures. The Tokyo-based company specialises in the production of CG for movies, animation, games and television, as well as motion capture work and video distribution. Nintendoplans to acquire 100% of Dynamo’s outstanding shares and make it a wholly owned subsidiary, in a deal which is expected to close on October 3. Following the acquisition, Nintendo plans to rename the company Nintendo Pictures Co, Ltd, at which point it will “focus on development of visual content utilising Nintendo IP”....

Shares in Nintendo hit a near 16-month high on Wednesday as anticipation built ahead of the Switch Lite release on Friday September 20. The stock peaked at ¥42,600 ($393) in Tokyo trading on Wednesday, its highest level since June 01, 2025, before ending the day up 1.19% at ¥42,390 ($391), its highest close since June 1 last year, shortly before E3 2018. Switch Lite will launch on September 20priced at $200/£200 — about $100/£80 cheaper than the flagshipSwitchmodel, which hassold some 37 million units since launching in March 2017....

A report from Japanese business publication Nikkei suggests that a more powerful Nintendo Switch console is still in the experimental stages of development, while a budget version of the system is being readied for release this fall. The report, which was translated byUSgamer, backs upprevious claimsthat two newSwitchmodels are in development, one offering enhanced features targeted at avid gamers, and a less expensive, more portable alternative aimed at younger players....

Nintendo has now sold 122.55 million Switch consoles as of December 31, up from 114 million, but the company still lowered its sales targets for the end of its current fiscal year. The figure means that Switch has now officially outsold the Game Boy (including Game Boy Color at 118.69m) andSony’sPlayStation 4(117.2m) Last year Switch was already confirmed asthe best-selling Nintendo home consoleof all-time, beating Wii’s 101.63m. More than 40 minutes of Diablo IV footage has been seemingly shared online. As spotted and shared by Reddit useriV1rus0, the footage consists of two clips, one lasting 5 minutes and the other lasting 38 minutes. It’s not yet clear who leaked the footage and why it was shared, but a discussion which can be heard in the shorter video implies that whoever recorded the footage wasn’t the person playing the game....

Plans to release a Call of Duty movie are currently on hold, according to film director Stefano Sollima (Sicario: Day of Soldado). Sollima told Italian siteBadTaste(viaGameSpot) that he and Joker scriptwriter Scott Silver have penned a script for a big screen adaptation ofActivision’s shooter series, but that the project is currently in limbo. Activision revealed plans to develop “a robust cinematic universe based on the Call of Duty franchise” in November 2015, when it announced the formation ofActivision BlizzardStudios....

Region locks on Steam for several PlayStation PC ports have been removed. Previously, most ofPlayStation‘s PC ports couldn’t be purchased in regions that didn’t support PSN. While there were workarounds for this issue, including the relatively simple steps of makingSteamand PSN accounts for different regions, these region locks frustrated affected players. While the argument for a mandatory PSN can be made for multiplayer titles, such as the now-defunctConcord, the inclusion in strictly single-player titles has previously attracted the ire of players....

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield recorded strong opening week sales at UK retail, with the former alone enjoying the biggest exclusive game launch of the year. PokémonShield entered at No.3, while the Pokémon Sword and Shield: Dual Edition double pack debuted at No.7. Combined, Pokémon Sword and Shield achieved the second biggest launch for Pokémon games in UK history, behind only 2016’s Pokémon Sun and Moon, which launched on a Wednesday rather than a Friday, meaning they had two extra days of sales compared to the latest franchise entries....

The Pokémon Company and Creatures Inc have said there may be room for more Detective Pikachu games. In an interview withFamitsu, Creatures Inc managing director Hiroyuki Jinnai confirmed that the recently released sequelDetective Pikachu Returnswas the final game in the storyline that started with 2016’s Detective Pikachu for theNintendo 3DS. The latest Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield trailer has revealed Gigantamax forms for five Pokémon. There are several ways to obtainGigantamax Pokémon. Gigantamax Pikachu and Gigantamax Eeevee are unlocked if Switch owners havePokémonLet’s Go save data on their console, for example, while Gigantamax Meowth is available as an “exclusive early-purchase bonus”. The shutdown of Switch emulator Yuzu has also led to the shutdown of 3DS emulator Citra, in a move upsetting some advocates of game preservation. Citra was a 3DS emulator which was originally created in April 2014, and continued to see regular updates until February this year. The core Citra team went on to create theSwitchemulator Yuzu, and earlier this week aNintendolawsuit settlement saw the Yuzu teamagreeing to pay $2....

PS5’s now-cancelled Twisted Metal reboot was a battle royale game featuring third-person shooter mechanics, according to the CV of a developer. Sony reportedly cancelled the Twisted Metal live service game, which was in development at British studio Firesprite, as part of a huge round of company-wide layoffs last year. VGC reportedin 2022 that the Twisted Metal reboot was in active development at Firespriteafterit moved from original developer Lucid Games. It’s understood thatSonyoriginally intended to bring back the vehicular combat game series to coincide with theTwisted Metal TV series, whichlaunched in 2023....

Rare boss Craig Duncan has been promoted to head of Xbox Game Studios. Duncan, who’s ledRarefor nearly 14 years, will replaceAlan Hartman, who wasappointed Xbox’s studios boss just last year, after previously leadingForzastudioTurn 10. According toGI.biz, Hartman will retire fromMicrosoftat the end of November, and will be replaced by Rare’s Duncan.
