Spanish development studio Tequila Works has made a “small” number of layoffs. It said the move followed the decision to cancel an unannounced project that had been in development at the Madrid-based outfit. “With deep regret, we must inform of the decision to cancel an unannounced game,”Tequila Workssaid in aLinkedInpost. “This tough decision means we will be restructuring the studio to concentrate on the development of only one game. These changes will have an impact to a small number of roles at the studio....

Sega has suggested that high costs caused by the pandemic are preventing it from producing a Dreamcast or Saturn mini console. Speaking toFamitsu,Sega‘s classic hardware producer Yosuke Okunari said that he had considered producing mini versions of the classic consoles, but claimed that the cost of producing parts for either a Dreamcast or Saturn would be prohibitively expensive. Yuji Naka, the co-creator of Sonic the Hedgehog, has said his new Square Enix title Balan Wonderworld is his “one chance” to create a new platform game. The offices of Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl developer GSC Game World have suffered a fire. As reported byVortexand posted to Twitter by @HazzadorGamin, a floor of the developer’s office was damaged by a fire on Thursday. While no one was hurt, it’s been estimated that repairs could cost as much as $70,000. According to the report, the fire took place near backup servers for the game, but it currently isn’t clear if any data was lost....

Summer Game Fest 2023 will feature content from over 40 major publishers, producer Geoff Keighley has announced. “And. Here. We. Go! More than 40 partners set to take part inSummer Game Festactivities,” the host wrote on Twitter. Those interested in attending the showcase in person can also buy tickets to the event, which are now onsale. The event, which takes place at the YouTube Theatre in Inglewood California on June 8, is set to feature many of the biggest game publishers, although the extent of their involvement has not yet been confirmed by Keighley....

Surgeon Simulator developer Bossa Studios has laid off one-third of its staff, it’s confirmed. GamesIndustry.bizsources shared a list of 19 developers that are currently being affected by the redundancy measures. According to the report, these redundancies include QA and production staff. The company is currently developing Lost Skies, a “cooperative survival adventure for 1–6 players set amongst the clouds.” In a statement provided to GI, studio co-founder Henrique Olifier called the situation a “perfect storm of events,” citing the high number of quality AAA releases in September which he claims caused funding issues....

Boxes for Nintendo Switch 2 games could be over 40% larger than original Switch game boxes, it’s claimed.
