Respawn is testing a new Apex Legends feature which penalises players for leaving matches early. The feature came to light after it was inadvertently released alongside the most recentApex Legendsgame update, before being disabled shortly after. “So internally, we have been working on and testing this feature but it wasn’t our intention or plan to have it go live with the update that went out today,”Respawncommunity manager Jay Frechette wrote onReddit....

Bungie has marked Destiny’s 10th anniversary by announcing that going forward, Destiny 2 will adopt a new release model. Instead of one large annual expansion, the developer will aim to release two medium-sized expansions and four major free content updates every year, it said. Each of these will depart from the “one-shot” campaign structureBungiehas been using since Shadowkeep, and each will be an opportunity “to explore exciting new formats instead”....

Activision is reportedly planning to release Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile in 2022. That’s according to industry insiderTom Henderson, who has a strong track record when it comes to Call of Duty and Battlefield leaks, among others. While the game has never been officially announced,WarzoneMobilewas referenced on multiple occasionsin a job advert posted online last year. And this week it was revealed that Warzone Mobile had been added to the database of PlaytestCloud, a platform which offers playtesting services to mobile game creators....

Call of Duty: Warzone co-developer Raven Software has provided an update on the much-requested two-player Duos mode. The Warzone community has eagerly awaited news on Duos for many weeks, since it’s now the last of the core squad modes yet to be added to Battle Royale (although it’s been hinted thatfive-person squadscould be introduced in future too). Amos Hodge, creative director atRaven Software, told French publicationGamerGenthis week that Duos “is coming” but suggested there are still bugs that need to be resolved before its eventual release....

Acitivison has explained how Call of Duty: Warzone’s metro trains will work when they’re added with Season 6. Season 6 is due to start on Tuesday, September 29and add seven Metro stations around the Verdansk map. According to a newblog post, the stations themselves won’t add a huge amount of new surface area, but their impact on matches should be significant. At the start of every match, the Metro will have a number of open stations to explore....

Certain Affinity has announced that it’s taken on additional Halo Infinite development duties. The prolific support studio, which is based in Austin, Texas, has collaborated on instalments in theHaloand Call of Duty franchises since 2007, as well as shooters Left 4 Dead and Doom. The story producer of the original Dead Space trilogy has said he would like to “redo Dead Space 3 almost completely”. Chuck Beaver was the story producer for all threeDead Spacegames as well as spin-offs Extraction, Sabotage and Ignition, and its various comics, novels and movies. Bungie has won a lawsuit that will see a Destiny 2 cheat company pay it $13.5 million in damages. TheDestinypublisher filed a lawsuit in August 2021 claiming that Elite Boss Tech’s cheating software infringed on Destiny 2’s copyright. As reported byTorrentFreak, the lawsuit has now ended with both sides agreeing to end the dispute. As a result of the agreement, Elite Boss Tech will pay $13.5 million in statutory damages, and will be prohibited from creating, distributing or making available any future software that infringes onBungie‘s rights....

Electronic Arts has announced an extension of its partnership with Lucasfilm Games, which will see Apex Legends developer Respawn work on three new Star Wars projects. In an announcement on Tuesday, the company officially announced a sequel toStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, along with two new projects in development at new teams within theRespawnhierarchy. Firstly, a new Star Wars first-person shooter game is being helmed by former LucasArts veteran and Medal of Honor co-creator Peter Hirschmann, who has previously worked on the original Battlefront games, The Force Unleashed and more....

Lars Wingefors, the executive and co-founder who oversaw Embracer’s turbulent acquisition spree, and subsequent mass layoffs, is set to step down as CEO and take on a new role. From August 1, Wingefors will relinquish his CEO seat, and is proposed to take on a new role as executive chair of the board, focusing on “strategic initiatives, M&A, and capital allocation”. Phil Rogers, the current CEO ofCrystal Dynamicsand Eidos, will take over asEmbracerCEO in August....

Piranha Bytes is reportedly facing closure as part of Embracer Group’s ongoing restructuring efforts. According to localmediareports(viaRPG Site), the German studio behind the Gothic, Risen and Elex series will close its doors unless it can find a new owner or publishing publisher. THQ Nordic, theEmbraceroperating group that houses the studio, has reportedly said it can keep both the Piranha Bytes name and the rights to the science fantasy-themed RPG series Elex if it can find a way to continue....

Final Fantasy 7 Remake creative director Tetsuya Nomura has said he “can’t share” why Sephiroth looks different on an upcoming Magic: The Gathering card. Magic: The Gathering’s next video game collaboration will focus on Final Fantasy, bringing heroes and villains from across the franchise to the popular trading card game. Some of these cards have been illustrated by Final Fantasy development veterans, including several Sephiroth cards illustrated by Nomura, who was an artist on the original version and creative director of the remake....
