Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars co-director Chihiro Fujioka has said he’s delighted that Nintendo is remaking the game. The remake, simply titledSuper Mario RPG,was announced last monthand will be released forNintendo Switchon June 01, 2025. Fujioka, who co-directed 1996’s SNES original, isn’t working on the remake in any capacity, but has said he’s very much looking forward to playing it. Games retailer GameStop has reportedly begun listing a range of Nintendo Switch 2 accessories, potentially revealing more details about the as-yet-unannounced console. As pictured by a Reddit user, the alleged listings suggestNintendo Switch 2will support MicroSD express cards. These cards are significantly faster than those supported by the currentSwitchconsole. With MicroSD express cards, Switch 2 could theoretically support as much as 128TB of storage space. However, it’s doubtful that cards of this size will be commonly available....

Ubisoft has officially renamed Rainbow Six Quarantine to Rainbow Six Extraction. The sci-fi co-op spin-off hasn’t been seen since its announcement atE3 2019, and itbriefly reappeared in a PlayStation Network listingas “Rainbow Six Parasite”. It’s likely that the pandemic inspiredUbisoftto rebrand the title to avoid comparisons to the coronavirus. “We took the strong foundations of Rainbow Six: Siege and crafted a modern tactical co-op shooter where you’ll be facing an ever-evolving alien threat,” said creative director Patrik Methé in a video published on Monday....

The co-director of the original The Last of Us video game has advocated for unionization in the games industry, after he was not credited in the recent HBO adaptation. Activision will shut down the original Call of Duty Warzone this Thursday, September 21. The free-to-play battle royale game launched in March 2020 and was a smash hit,attracting over 100 million players in 13 months, according to its publisher. Content creator Timothy John Beta, better known as TimTheTatman, has had his Call of Duty Operator skin removed from the game at his own request. On Saturday, TimTheTatman called onActivisionto pull his Operator bundle in a show of solidarity with his friend Nicholas ‘Nickmercs’ Kolcheff, the FaZe Clan co-owner and streamer whose Operator skin was recentlypulled after a backlash to anti-LGBTQIA+ comments. Ubisosft has said it’s pursuing a “new direction” with pirate naval battle game Skull & Bones. Confirminga VGC exclusivefrom July, the game’s new creative director Elisabeth Pellen said theUbisoft Singaporedevelopment team had “dreamt something bigger,” and that fans would see the game again sometime next year. Pellen was brought in to steer the reboot, VGC first reported, replacing former creative director Justin Farren who later left the company. Pellen is a 20-yearUbisoftveteran who most notably wrote and directed 2003 shooter XIII and led level design forSplinter Cell’s first sequel, Pandora Tomorrow....

The UK has passed a Bill which could force Apple to allow sideloading of non-App Store apps, including games like Fortnite and new app stores, on UK-owned iOS devices. The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers (DMCC) Bill was introduced in April 2023 and seeks to “provide for the regulation of competition in digital markets”. With the UK now set to have a General Election on July 4, Parliament is set to be dissolved on May 30, at which point any unfinished business will be lost, because public Bills can’t be carried over from one Parliament to the next....

After almost a decade, Sony is ending multiplayer support for Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3 and The Last of Us on PS3.
