The producer of The Legend of Zelda series has said he’s keen to see a Zelda movie or TV show in the future.
In an interview withPolygonabout the recently releasedThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, long-time series producerEiji Aonumawas asked if the success of The Super Mario Bros Movie had him excited about the prospect of a Zelda adaptation.
“I have to say, I am interested,” Aonuma replied. “For sure.
“But it’s not just me being interested in something that makes things happen, unfortunately.”
Tears of the Kingdom directorHidemaro Fujibayashithen added that “maybe the voice of the fans is what’s important here,” implying that public support for such a project may increase its chances of happening.
The Super Mario Bros Movie currently stands at a worldwide gross of $1.2 billion, according toBox Office Mojo.
The film was released in most regions on April 5, but didn’t release in Japan until April 28.
In Japan, the film grossed $13.5 million in its first weekend, which then rose to $18.3 million in its second weekend. The latter was the second-best second weekend gross in Japanese box office history.
Following years of delays, the highly anticipated Switch sequel toThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildwas released on May 12.
