World of Warcraft Shadowlands is the “fastest-selling PC game of all time industry-wide”, according to Activision Blizzard.

Blizzard’s eightWorld of Warcraftexpansion launched on November 23 and sold over 3.7 million units globally on release day, “based on internal company records and reports from key distributors”, the publisher said on Tuesday.

Speaking duringActivision Blizzard’s third quarter earnings call in October,CEO Bobby Kotick saidthe company was planning increased support for the long-running game following strong player growth since the release ofWorld of Warcraft Classiclast year.

Today’s announcement coincides with the launch of Shadowlands Season 1. Castle Nathria, its first 10-boss raid, opens in Normal and Heroic difficulties. Mythic Keystone dungeons will also become available and the expansion’s first rated PvP season kicks off too.
