Saber Interactive has announced Wild Card Football, the latest title in its arcade-style Playgrounds Sports series.
The American football game, which will be released onPS5,Xbox Series X/S,Switch,PS4,Xbox OneandPCon October 10, will feature 7v7 gameplay and focuses on over-the-top moves and fast-paced gameplay.

It will also be officially licensed by the NFL Players Association – which is the union representing NFL players – and will therefore include “hundreds” of current and legendary American football players, including Colin Kaepernick, Patrick Mahomes, Justin Jefferson, Joey Bosa, Ja’Marr Chase, Aaron Donald, TJ Watt and Jalen Hurts.
It doesn’t appear, however, to have the NFL licence, which means the game may have real players and likenesses, but not real team names and logos.

Players will be able to create their own dream teams from the athletes available, and can then take on challenges and events to unlock new players.
There will also be over 150 ‘wild cards’ which apply power-ups to turn the tide of a match.

Saber was previously responsible for 2017 title NBAPlaygrounds, which offered a similarly arcade-style spin on basketball.
This was followed in 2018 by NBA2KPlaygrounds 2, which was published by 2K.

Following the acquisition ofSaber InteractivebyEmbracer Groupin 2020, however, Wild Card Football will be published by Saber itself rather than 2K.
2K announced in 2020 that it had entered a multi-year partnership with the NFLwhich would see it create “non-simulation” football gamesstarting in 2021.

It then stated in 2021, however, thatthe first of these games had been delayedand would no longer be released before April 2022.
