A new video shows the first look at Sony’s PS5 Remote Play feature running on PlayStation 4.
As detailed in the footage shared by VGC’s Andy Robinson, the new feature – which wasadded in a surprise releasethis week – allows users to stream PS5 content to their last-gen console, enabling them to play in a separate room or location.
As shown in the video below, the PS5 Remote Play app allows streaming up to 1080p and includes a specificPlayStationButton menu for accessing theControlCenter and Home screens for both consoles.
The application is also tested via PSVita’s PS4 Remote Play, which confirms that PS5 games can’t be streamed to the handheld.
In order to connect a PS4 console to a PS5, players must enable the Remote Play feature from the newer console’s system menu, then either discover it automatically via wi-fi or manually enter a generated code.
One unique function the app enables is the ability for players to play PS5 games such asAstro’s Playroomwith a DualShock 4 controller, something thatthe PS5 console itself does not allow.

However, the software does not appear to recognise the new DualSense (the next-gen controllerdoesn’t appear to work with PS4 at allat launch), meaning that those using a PS4 to play PS5 games will have to do so without haptics, adaptive triggers or the built-in microphone, effectively blocking some content.
Even connecting the DualSense wirelessly to the PS5 system itself while streaming from a separate room doesn’t work, as it terminates the PS5 Remote Play session.
DualShock 4 will work withPlayStation 4games on PS5 via backwards compatibility,Sonysaid in a recentblog post. Speciality peripherals, such as officially licensed racing wheels, arcade sticks, and flight sticks, also work with PS5 games.
Platinumand Gold Wireless Headsets, as well as third-party headsets that connect via USB port or audio jack, will also work on PS5, along with PS Move Motion Controllers and the PlayStation VR Aim Controller.

Last monthSony revamped the existing PS4 Remote Play app on mobile, PC and Mac, changing its name to PS Remote Play and adding the option to connect to PS5 when it launches.
ThePS5 release dateis November 12 in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea, with the rest of the world getting the console on November 19.
The release date forPlayStation 5accessories – including DualSense – was recentlybrought forward to October 30 in the US,and to November 12 in the UK.
