UK supermarket chain Tesco will no longer sell physical video games in its stores.

According toGamesIndustry.biz, once its current stock has been sold, the retailer—which has over 2800 stores n the UK—will no longer sell boxed games.

The supermarket chain told the site the decision was due to the move from its customers “towards digital entertainment”.

This news hasn’t been entirely unexpected, following massive discounts to video game products across Tesco’s stores this year.

In February, VGC reported that the firm was selling high profile games likeDeathloopandCall of Duty Vanguardfor as little as £5.

The software price cuts followedheavy discounts on Nintendo Switch and Xbox hardwareearlier that month. Tesco was also offering first-partySwitchgames, includingPokémonLegends Arceus and Super Mario 3D World, for around £20.

Tesco will continue to sell currency cards that can be used to purchase digital games from online marketplaces likePlayStationStore,MicrosoftStore andNintendoeShop.

While cards for individual games are rarer, larger releases such as FIFA and Call of Duty often see digital versions making their way to physical retail stores.
