Ubisoft is giving away virtual currency for its free-to-play shooter XDefiant this month.
The virtual currency is being offered in the form of log-in bonuses, with 900 XCoins (worth $9) available to claim between today and September 24.

XCoins can be used to purchase in-game items including cosmetics and the game’s battle pass. A bundle of 1,000 XCoins currently costs $9.99 / £7.99.
The promotion, which will also offer players weapon and battle pass XP boosters, is beingbilled asa celebration of the end ofXDefiant Season 1.

However, it comes amid reports that there’s been a sharp drop in interest in the game, contributing toa significant decline in Ubisoft’s share price.

The XDefiant giveaway begins today at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm BST, which is the same time as theCall of Duty Black Ops 6 betaends.

In an accompanying social media post spotted byGameSpot, XDefiant executive producerMark RubinsaidthatUbisoftSan Franciso has appointed a number of team members to work on fresh content for XDefiant.
“Also, we are super excited about the roadmap of upcoming content and features and we’ve added a bunch more great talented people to the XDefiant team for just that reason,” he said.

It’s a notable comment, given thatUbisoft recently laid off 45 employeesacross its San Francisco studio and Cary, North Carolina-basedRed Storm Entertainment.
VGC’sXDefiant reviewcalled it “a confident shooter that’s far more than a Call of Duty knockoff”.
