A Final Fantasy 9 remake is reportedly still in development, alongside a remake of Final Fantasy Tactics.
According to noted industry insider ‘NateTheHate,’ who has a record of revealing information about video games ahead of their official reveal, both titles, which have been rumored for several years, are still on the way.

Replying to a user on X who asked about the status of both games, NateTheHate said, “Both remain in active development. FFIXR isn’t expected to see release in 2025. Maybe we’ll see it launch in 2026.”
Final Fantasy 9 was originally released in 2000 for thePlayStation. It was directed by Hiroyuki Ito, who later directed Final Fantasy 12.

The game was re-released in 2010 as a PS1 Classic forPS3andPSP, withVitasupport arriving in 2012.
In 2016, the game was released for mobile andPC. It then came toPS4in 2017, and toXbox OneandNintendo Switchin 2019.

Final Fantasy Tactics, the other gameNateTheHatementioned, was initially released in 1997 for the PlayStation. The game was developed by Yasumi Matsuno, who would go on to develop Final Fantasy XII.
In 2021, aFinal Fantasy 9 remakewas one of many unannounced titles listed in aGeForce Now database leak.

These included severalSquare Enixgames that would later be officially confirmed such as the PC version ofFinal Fantasy 7 Remake, a Chrono Cross remaster andKingdom Hearts 4.
