Retro remaster developer Nightdive Studios has announced that it will be releasing a remaster of Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion.

Nightdive previously released a remaster of the original Turok: Dinosaur Hunter onPCin 2015, before also remastering its sequel Turok 2: Seeds of Evil in 2017. Both remasters were released onXbox Onein 2018,Switchin 2019 andPS4in 2021.

Turok 3 is getting a 4K remaster

The Turok 3 remaster will release on all platforms simultaneously, launching onPS5,Xbox Series X/S, Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC on November 14.

According to Nightdive, the remaster will run through its proprietary KEX engine, which has been used for its previous remasters.

It will result in the ability to play the game at up to 4K resolution and 120 frames per second, depending on the platform. It also features “upgraded gameplay, high-resolution textures, enhanced lighting and rendering, and support for console gamepads with platform-specific features”.

Console-specific features include optional gyro motion controls for Switch and Trophies / Achievements onXbox,PlayStationandSteam.

Turok 3 has players choosing to play as either Joseph or Danielle, the siblings of the second game’s protagonist Joshua. After Joshua is killed, the selected character becomes the new Turok and has to save the universe from destrcution by a monstrous entity called Oblivion.

Each character has their own abilities – Danielle has a grappling hook and favours action, whereas Josaph has night vision goggles, meaning he’s best suited to stealth players.

Earlier this yearNightdive was acquired by Atarifor $10 million (half in cash and half inAtarishares). Atari will pay up to a further $10 million over the next three years, based on Nightdive’s future performance.

Nightdive was founded in 2012 by formerSonyOnline Entertainment artists Stephen and Alix Kick, after Stephen bought an old copy of System Shock 2 and realised the 1999 game didn’t work on his computer.

Since its inception, the studio has specialised in remastering old games and making them playable again on modern systems, with enhanced resolutions and frame rates.

Recent Nightdive remasters have included Forsaken Remastered, Doom 64, Quake, Quake II, Shadow Man Remastered, PowerSlave Exhumed and System Shock:Enhanced Edition.
