CD Projekt has released The Witcher spin-off, Thronebreaker, for Nintendo Switch.
The ‘card battle RPG’, which first released forPCand consoles in 2018, is available to purchase now for $19.99 / £16.99 via theNintendoeShop.
The Switch version was ported by Polish studio Crunching Koalas and includes a set of free digital goodies. Details on how to claim a soundtrack, concept art gallery and annotated map can be found on thededicated website.
The game acts as a single-player component for popular Witcher card game Gwent, with a story following the war-veteran queen Meve, who is out on a journey of “destruction and revenge” amid an imminent Nilfgaardian invasion.
Players lead a small force of warriors as they journey across several regions from previous Witcher games from an isometric perspective.
Queen Meve’s army is represented by a customizable deck of cards and combat takes place in matches similar to Gwent.
The Witcher 3: Wild Huntreleased forNintendo Switchin October, which VGC’sWitcher 3 Switch reviewcalled “an intelligent port that shrinks one of the best RPGs of recent years without losing the scale and magic.”
In DecemberCD Projekt signed a new agreement with The Witcher book author Andrzej Sapkowskiwhich will see both parties continue to work together.
It grantsCD Projektextra rights, as well as confirming the company’s title to The Witcher intellectual property in video games, graphic novels, board games and merchandise.
