The remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is now official, and will be coming to PlayStation 5 before Xbox Series X/S.
The game was revealed during thePlayStation Showcasestream tonight, and is being developed by Aspyr Media, the studio behind several recent Star War remasters.
Sonylater confirmed on the officialPlayStation Blogthat the game will be “a console exclusive onPlayStation 5at launch”, implying it will also be onPCon day one, and will be coming toXbox Series X/Sat a later date.
Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreierclaimed the remake was in developmentback in April.

“Why remake Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic?” asks lead producer Ryan Treadwell in aPlayStation Blog post. “Well, nearly 20 years after it first debuted, the original KOTOR is still one of the most beloved games of all time.
“And even as Star Wars travels to new horizons, we know the community is as eager as ever to return to this iconic era of storytelling and action.
“With Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake, our hope is to give both series newcomers and long-term fans an experience that can live alongside the very best modern releases.
“We’re rebuilding it from the ground up with the latest tech to match the groundbreaking standard of innovation established by the original, all while staying true to its revered story.”
Speaking during a post-show following Thursday’s PlayStation Showcase, Treadwell was asked exactly how extensive the rework of the classicBioWareRPG would be.
“This is a complete remake of this beloved Star Wars story,” he said. “For Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake we are building from the ground up, while maintaining the integrity of story and character from the original.”

Aspyr is behind therecent re-releasesof Star Wars: Jedi Knight II, Republic Commando and Episode 1 Racer. It’s even ported KoTOR toiOSin the past, along with another BioWare title, Jade Empire.
