It also featured the firstAlan Wake 2andMortal Kombat 1gameplay, the announcement ofSpider-Man 2’s release date, plus a new Final Fantasy VII Rebirth trailer and details.
The show was followed by Day of the Devs, an indie presentation showing off 15 interesting games from around the world, and after that came the latest comedy presentation fromDevolver Digital.

Several major publishers also chose to hold product showcases coinciding with Summer Game Fest, includingMicrosoft(Xbox Games Showcase and Starfield Direct),Ubisoft(Ubisoft Forward) andCapcom(Capcom Showcase).
The event now has the spotlight to itself as the industry’s premier June showcase, since TheEntertainment Software Associationconfirmed in December that E3, which began in the 1990s,won’t be coming back.

Following last year’s SGF, Keighleyacknowledged a lack of representation at the show.
In an interview withCBC, event producer and host Keighley said Melanie Liburd, the actor who playsAlan Wake 2’s co-lead protagonist Saga Anderson, was due to take part in the show but ultimately couldn’t because of scheduling conflicts.

“I think generally we do a pretty good job with diversity in our shows. That was something that’s a fair flag,” he said.
“We also want to be authentic to the games that are being presented on the show and the developers that are making them. So yeah, I think we’re conscious of it.”
