New PlayStation VR 2 details have reportedly leaked via a developer conference.
YouTube channelPSVR Without Parolereports thatSonyheld a 90-minute, behind closed doors developer summit for potential PSVR 2 developers earlier this week, andUpload VRlater claimed to have verified that the event took place.
Sony is reportedly keen to “move away from VR experiences and focus on console-quality AAA titles” via a new hybrid model for PS5 games. This would see major releases come with optional VR supportin a similar fashion to Hitman 3andNo Man’s Sky. When games launch, Sony wants players to be able to download either the regular or the VR version.
It was also reported that there will be “a big push” towards remastering original PSVR games for PSVR 2.
Sony is said to have detailed various specs for the new PSVR headset, which is codenamed NGVR (next-gen VR), includinga previously leaked resolutionof 4000×2080 pixels (2000×2040 per eye).
PSVR Without Parole also claims the headset uses a Fresnel OLED display and has a field of view of 110 degrees, 10 degrees more than the original PSVR and 20 degrees more than Quest 2.
“The hardware is capable of flexible scaling resolution which concentrates the rendering resources on the player’s area of focus, and this shouldn’t be confused with foveated rendering, because that’s a separate process which can be used in conjunction with its confirmed eye-tracking technologies,” the site reports.
“And when you combine FSR and foveated rendering, it dramatically reduces the strain on thePlayStation 5resources. These techniques, along with a few others that haven’t been widely discussed yet, will help PSVR 2 games look better than VR games rightfully should.”

In addition to their previously confirmed adaptive triggers,PSVR 2 controllerswill also reportedly include capacitive touch sensors for the thumb, index and middle fingers, and the controllers are said to be able to track how far from the sensors a player’s fingers are.
Sony is reportedly planning torelease PSVR 2 in the 2022 holiday season, and PSVR Without Parole claims launch details will be revealed early next year.
