Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed that it will soon stop supplying a PlayStation 5 adaptor that allows the original PlayStation VR headset to work on the console.
In order for PS5 owners to get the original PS VR headset to work on the console, they need torequest a free adaptorfor thePlayStationCamera, which is the only method of support, since PS5’s HD camera does not support the old headset.
As perSIE’s support website, as of June 26, 2025, or “until supplies last”, the PlayStation Camera adaptor will no longer be available.
The newer, PlayStation VR 2 headset forPlayStation 5is not backwards compatible withPS4’s original PlayStation VR games, so once the PS Camera adaptor is no longer available, there will be no official option to play these games on PS5.
This summer, thePlayStation VR 2 received a significant price cut, its biggest ever, ahead of the release ofPCcompatibility with the device. A PC adaptor was released in August for $59.99 / €59.99 / £49.99 at select retailers anddirect.playstation.com.
PS5 VR features like HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback (other than rumble) are not available when playing on PC.
Last year,Sony Interactive Entertainment’s senior vice president and head of global marketing, Eric Lempel,described VR as a meaningful businessfor the company, but one that was yet to reach its potential.
