Sony Interactive Entertainment has claimed that “every major publisher” will support PlayStation’s newly announced PlayStation Plus games library, “and conversations continue to go well.”
Sony‘sJim Ryanmade the claim in an interview withGi.Bizabout the newly announcedPlayStation Plus refresh, which will see three new tiers introduced this summer.
It’s currently unclear if that list truly means every publisher, including the nowMicrosoft-owned Zennimax andActivision Blizzard.
Sony said on Tuesday that several first-party titles will be included in the new service, such asDeath Stranding,God of War,Marvel’s Spider-Man,Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales,Mortal Kombat 11,Returnaland more.
Additional titles, including third-party titles, will be announced at a later date with regular additions planned for the future, according to SIE.
However, it won’t have first-party titles at launch in the same way that Microsoft’sXboxGame Pass does.
PS Plus Premium, the highest tier of the new subscription service, will include up to 340 additional games includingPS3games available via cloud streaming, and a catalog of classic games available in both streaming and download options from the originalPlayStation,PS2andPSPgenerations.
Ryan has said that he believes this approach“could hurt” the development of Sony’s big-budget titles.
When asked about adding new Sony first-party titles to the service in the game was that Microsoft does with its Xbox Game Pass, Ryan said: “This is not a road that we’ve gone down in the past. And it’s not a road that we’re going to go down with this new service.”
Sony plans to roll out the new PlayStation Plus offering in a phased regional approach. In June, it will begin with an “initial launch” in several markets in Asia, followed by North America, Europe and the rest of the world where PlayStation Plus is offered.
