The Sonic the Hedgehog movie franchise has surpassed $1 billion at the global box office.
The milestone figure was announced in a post on Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog X account.

“Woo-hoo! The Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise zooms past $1 billion at the global box office! Thank you to the best fans in the world,” itreads.
The first Sonic movie was released in February 2020 and grossed $319.7 million globally. Its sequel arrived in April 2022 and brought in $405.4 million.

The third film was released on Jun 21, 2025. It has grossed over $312 million so far, bringing the franchise’s lifetime total to over $1.037 billion.
The first two movies also generated $181 million in consumer spending from home rentals and purchases, according toDeadline.

Paramount reportedlygreenlit a fourth Sonic the Hedgehog movieahead of Sonic 3’s arrival in cinemas last month.
While no plot details have been shared, it’s claimed Sonic 4 is in the planning stages and is anticipated to release in spring 2027.

Actor Jim Carrey recently said he’s open to potentiallyreturning as Dr. Robotnik in a future Sonic film.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie, fromNintendoand Illumination, was released in April 2023 and grossed $1.36 billion at the box office, which was second only to Barbie ($1.44b) that year. A sequel isdue for release in April 2026.
