Sega has filed a trademark for Yakuza Wars.

As spotted byGematsu, the trademark was published in Japan today.

Its filing category suggests the name will be used in a video game product of some sort, rather than any ofSega‘s other enterprises.

It’s not clear, however, whether it will be the title (or subtitle) of an upcoming game in the Like a Dragon series.

Like a Dragon used to be known asYakuzain the west until Sega seemingly decided to drop the name in favour of Like a Dragon, the literal translation of the Ryo Ga Gotoku name the series has always had in Japan.

As such, the Yakuza name didn’t feature in the western title for the eighth main entry,Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, nor was it in the western titles of Like a Dragon: Ishin and Like a Dragon: The Man Who Erased His Name.

That said, both names will be used for the upcomingAmazonPrime live-action adaptation, Like a Dragon: Yakuza.

There’s also a possibility (albeit perhaps a less likely one) that the Yakuza Wars name could be used for a spin-off of in Sega’s Sakura Wars series, or even a crossover between Sakura Wars and Like a Dragon.
