Sega’s classic arcade and Dreamcast game Cosmic Smash is being reimagined for PlayStation VR2.
Following thelaunch of a teaser site last month,C-Smash VRSwas officially announced on Monday with a trailer which is viewable below.
Set for release in 2023, the title combines sport and puzzle gameplay and features original tracks by Japanese DJKen Ishii(Rez Infinite) and synthesiser player and record producer Danalogue (front man of The Comet is Coming and Soccer 96).
It’s being developed by British VR specialistWolf & Wood(The Last Worker, The Exorcist: Legion VR, A Chair in a Room: Greenwater, Hotel R’n’R) and published byRapidEyeMovers, a brand-new London-based production studio.
“Combining a low-gravity form of Squash with timed block-breaking challenges, C-Smash VRS brings together the very best of racket sports and timeless action puzzle gameplay,” according to the game’s official announcement.
“Dashing and ducking from one side to the other and performing intense shots and trick smashes, players can use all walls as they journey through dozens of levels of fun and fitness.
“Players can either play alone or forge a cosmic connection with a friend, exploring a variety of online versus and co-op modes.”

Cosmic Smash was released in arcades and for Dreamcast in 2001.
It places players in a series of rooms filled with blocks and arms them with a racquet. The aim is to use the racquet to smack balls off the blocks to make them all disappear.
Players can pull off special smashes to help them clear the blocks faster, but that comes with the trade-off of making the ball move more quickly.
