Sony is rolling out the ability for PS5 players to join Discord voice chat directly from their console.

It means players will no longer need to rely on the DiscordPCor mobile apps to start the connection.

To join a chat fromPS5, players will need to select the Discord tab in Game Base in the console’s control centre and choose the server or DM group they want to join.

The latestPS5 system update is available now, introducing new Discord and child account features. Pulse audio accessories and thePlayStationLink USB adapter have also been updated to boost connection stability.

Players will also get a PS5 console notification when another Discord user calls them, enabling them to join right away.

Sonysaidthe feature “will gradually roll out over the coming weeks, starting with players in Japan/Asia, followed by Europe, Australia/New Zealand, and the Middle East, and finally the Americas”.

Beginning next week, it’s also adding the ability for players to share their PlayStation Network profile “on any messaging or social app”.

Players will be able to generate a shareable link or QR code from PS5 or the PlayStation App. Once opened, recipients will have the option to add the sender as a friend when they next sign-in to PlayStation Network.
