Sony’s latest PlayStation 5 system update appears to have blocked the controversial Cronus Zen device from working with the console.
The multi-platform controller adapter and modding tool can be used to give players an unfair gameplay advantage, such as using a keyboard and mouse to play console games or reducing recoil.
WhileSony’spatch notes for the latest PS5 updaterevealed new party and audio features, as well as improved system software performance and stability, there was no mention of Cronus Zen.
However, a message posted on the Cronus website following the update’s releasereads: “We’re aware of an issue with Zen and thePS5. As of Jan 24, the console is prompting everyone to update to Version: 24.01-08.60.00, and if you do, Zen will no longer connect to the PS5 without disconnecting.
“However, this update is NOT mandatory! Simply skip it and everything should still work with the Zen 2.2.2 update as expected.
“There is currently no timetable on a fix so please don’t be offended if you’re directed to check this notice when asking for any kind of ETA. It could be 24hrs, 24 days, 24 months, we won’t know until we’ve dug into it.
“This notice will be updated as soon as we have more information. We appreciate your patience.”
Last year,Activisionupdatedits Ricochet anti-cheat system to detect and warn players against the improper use of third-party devices “that alter the Call of Duty gameplay experience”, which it said could lead to suspensions and account bans for repeat offenders.
