The PlayStation 5 is reportedly selling out in China following the launch of Black Myth: Wukong.
According to consultant Daniel Camilo, the console is selling out across China, with stock at the country’s largest electronic store Huaqiangbei struggling to accommodate demand.

According to the report, the demand is resulting in scalping and reselling of the console which hasn’t been common since thePS5‘s first two years.

The successful launch comes amidcontroversy involving reported demands sent to influencersinterested in covering Wukong, that they keep politics, COVID-19 references and “feminist propaganda” out of their coverage.
SomeGame Sciencedevelopers had previously been criticised fora reported history of making sexually crude and misogynistic commentson social media.

VGC’sBlack Myth: Wukong final impressionscalled the game “a beautiful if slightly boring boss rush”, saying: “It’s utterly gorgeous and technically mighty, but its gameplay and narrative leave quite a bit to be desired.”
The game, which was developed by Shenzen-based studio Game Science, and is based on Chinese novel Journey to the West, was released forPCand PS5 on Tuesday.

Within hours of release, it attracted over 1.44 million concurrent players onSteam, according to trackerSteam Charts, which means it’s already the platform’s fourth biggest game ever in terms of concurrent players. The concurrent player number crossed 2 million on Thursday.
Wukong is above recent single-player hits likeCyberpunk 2077,Elden Ring,Hogwarts Legacyand Baldur’s Gate. Only Counter-Strike 2 (1.81m),Palworld(2.1m), andPUBG: Battlegrounds(3.25m) have ever had more concurrent players.
