Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has launched its PlayStation Direct online store in Germany.
The company’s US arm launchedPlayStationDirect to sell consoles, games and accessoriesdirect to consumers in September 2019.
Now the store is rolling out to Europe, withGermany being the first country to gain access.
A tweet on the official PlayStation Germany Twitter account stated that PlayStation Direct would be coming to other European countries soon.
“The PlayStation Direct store is coming to Europe, starting with today’s official launch in Germany,” it said. “The UK, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg will follow shortly.”
Ajob advert posted last Decembersuggested SIE was seeking to “build on the successful launch” of PlayStation Direct in the US by bringing the store to Europe –a plan it confirmedduring an investor relations event in May.
“PlayStation Direct has achieved significant revenue in the US market within little more than a year of starting operations,” SIE president and CEOJim Ryansaid during a presentation.
“We plan for 300 percent further growth within this fiscal year, helped by our upcoming launch in Europe.”
In a presentation slide,Sonysaid PlayStation Direct generated over $5 million in FY19, over $200 million in FY20, and is expected to bring in over $600 million during the current business year.

According to the aforementioned job advert, the director of the PlayStation Direct Europe business will be based at the company’s London office.
They will report to the San Francisco-based VP of PlayStation Direct and be responsible for leading the European sales strategy.]
