Sony has announced that the DualSense controller can now get firmware updates via a PC connection.
Players who prefer to play on aPCno longer need to connect their controller to aPlayStation 5in order to update it.
They can now download new Windows software called ‘Firmware updater for DualSense wireless controller’, which can be found on thePlayStation website.
This enables them to plug in their DualSense controller via USB, download the latest firmware update fromSony‘s servers and apply it to the controller.
Previously, players could only update the DualSense firmware via a PS5, but the new software means that theoretically there’s now no need to own a PS5 at all to use a DualSense on PC and keep it updated.
The news may be particularly useful for those who enjoy playing PC ports ofPlayStationgames, something Sony has started to embrace in the past couple of years.
Sony releasedHorizon Zero Dawn for PCin August 2020, and followed this up witha PC port of Days Gonein May 2021. It then released a PC version ofGod of Warin January 2022.
Uncharted4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacywill also make the jump to PCin 2022, while a listing spotted onSteam‘s database last year suggestsSackboy: A Big Adventure may also be getting a PC port.
