Paradox Interactive has opened a new development studio in Barcelona, Spain.

Paradox Tinto is headed up by studio lead Johan Andersson, a Paradox Development Studio veteran and the creator of the Europa Universalis franchise.

The studio will handle ongoing development on Europa Universalis IV before switching its attention to creating new games in the grand strategy genre.

Paradox Interactivenow operates seven studios across four countries, with Paradox Tinto joining its three Swedish development studios, two US ones and one in The Netherlands.

“We’re particularly pleased to expand for the first time with a new studio focusing on the core game genre we’re famous for: grand strategy,” said Charlotta Nilsson, Paradox Interactive’s chief operations officer.

“The success of our studios over the last few years has allowed us to continually add more capabilities and new ideas, with more games going into active development and more ambitious plans every day.

“We currently have around 70 open positions across our seven studios, with plans to recruit roughly 200 people in 2020 alone.”

Paradox said in April that it enjoyedthe best year in its history in 2019, both in terms of revenue and profit generated.
