Illumination’s upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie could reintroduce a 36-year-old character from one of the Nintendo mascot’s very first games, it’s been claimed. That’s according to comedian and actor Sebastian Maniscalco, who appeared on theBertcastpodcast this weekend and claimed that he has a voice acting role in the animated movie. “I’m in the movie Super Mario Bros., an animated movie,” he said. “I’m playing Spike, their boss.” As pointed out by@Eponge2L, ‘Foreman Spike’ was a character in the 1985 NES and arcade game Wrecking Crew....

A remake of Square Enix’s classic RPG Chrono Cross is reportedly in development for multiple platforms. Chrono Cross, which was released for the originalPlayStationin 1999, was one ofmany unannounced titles listed in an Nvidia database leakin September – a list the company subsequently admitted was real, even if it said the games didn’t necessarily exist. The following month, VGC reported on claims thatPlayStation was set to announce a remake of a “big game” this Christmas, which were made by a musician who said they were involved with its soundtrack....

A “very small” team is in the early stages of developing an original IP at Respawn Entertainment. In an interview withAxios,RespawnbossVince Zampellasaid the “skunkworks” team is being led by Steve Fukuda, the game director ofTitanfallandTitanfall 2. “The mission is to find the fun in something new,” he said. Unity has announced its engine will natively support the popular DLSS resolution technology before the end of the year. DLSS is a feature exclusive toNvidia’s RTX graphics cards and works by using AI to upscale the resolution ofPC games, effectively allowing players to achieve higher graphical settings and better frame rates from their systems. The WWE 2K series is returning to mobile, exclusively via Netflix. As announced on the officialNetflixaccount on X,iOSandAndroidversions of the game are planned for Fall 2025. The game will be available exclusively through the Netflix app, which offers a selection of mobile titles. Xbox has said it’s taking measures to increase party chat security in a bid to combat DDOS attacks. A Reddit user recently warned fellow players not to accept random party invites because peer-to-peer connections can expose IP addresses, leaving users vulnerable to attacks. In response,Xboxengineer Bill Ridmannsaid(viaMP1st) the company is aware of the problem and working to stamp it out. “Hey all, we know this is a problem – we are actually phasing out P2P voice connections for party chat completely which we’ve been working on quite a bit in the background to stop this very problem,” he said....

Yakuza / Like a Dragon creator Toshihiro Nagoshi says there’s a “high possibility” his next game will use western actors. Given its setting, theYakuzaseries, now known as Like a Dragon globally, has an almost entirely Japanese cast in each game. In a world where so many people complain about frame rate drops in games, South of Midnight is taking an interesting approach. South Korea’s Game Rating committee has rated an unannounced Silent Hill game, following more than a year of reports that Konami is set to revive the classic horror franchise. “Silent Hill: The Short Message” wasratedby the committee on Monday, with no platforms specified. As noted byGematsu, the game’s publisher is listed asUNIANA, a company which regularly publishesKonamigames in South Korea. The rating is possibly related to one of multiple Silent Hill projects which are reportedly in development at various studios....

Another new Xbox Series X/S controller design has seemingly leaked, just days after the last one was confirmed. Twitter userEspía de Ofertasspotted the ‘Lunar Shift’ controller onAmazon, noting that he wasn’t aware that it existed. “I think I just found anXboxcontroller on Amazon thatMicrosofthasn’t announced yet,” he tweeted. “Correct me if I’m wrong.” The controller appears to have a silver effect, which the packaging describes as a “surreal shimmer”....
