Infinity Ward has opened a studio in Austin, Texas. The new studio, which will work on the Call of Duty franchise, is recruiting for several roles including UI and design. “Our studio provides a safe, trusting, and empowering environment to unleash your creativity and help make the extraordinary.” Infinity Ward was founded in 2002 and is the original studio behind the Call of Duty series. Headquartered in California, it also has offices in Poland, Mexico and Austin, Texas....

Yoko Shimomura, the composer behind Final Fantasy XV, Xenoblade Chronicles and Kingdom Hearts, is to be honored with a special award at this year’s BAFTA Games Awards. Shimomura will receive the BAFTA Fellowship, marking her contribution to the video game industry over the years. Velan Studios has announced that Knockout City is going free-to-play and will now be self-published. The game, which was released a year ago is currently enjoying its fifth season of content and will make substantial changes at the end of the season. Mario Kart Tour’s next event will be the Halloween tour, Nintendo has announced, ahead of the release of Luigi’s Mansion 3 on October 31. The event will start on October 22 at 11:00pm PT (or 7am Oct 23 in the UK) and add Halloween-themed content including the Luigi’s Mansion course (DS) and the Luigi driver. Humanoid Origin, the studio led by former BioWare general manager Casey Hudson, has announced it’s shutting down. In a post on LinkedIn, the Canadian studio said it was closing because of funding issues. “Earlier today, we informed our staff that Humanoid Origin will be shutting down,” itsaid. “Despite efforts to shield the studio from broader challenges in the industry, an unexpected shortfall of funding left us unable to sustain operations....

Nintendo has released a new gameplay trailer for Metroid Prime 4, which shows off Samus’s new abilities. According to the trailer, Samus has new psychic abilities which enable her to control things with her mind. “Samus Aran has been unexpectedly transported to the planet Viewros,”Nintendosaid. “As she explores the planet for answers, Samus is granted psychic abilities – mysterious and ancient powers that allow her to control the trajectory of her beams, operate mechanisms and open doors....

Former Sonic Team head Yuji Naka has seemingly confirmed that Michael Jackson did compose some of the music for Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The question of Jackson’s involvement has been widely discussed and argued online for many years, because it’s widely believed that some of the tracks were composed by Michael Jackson, who wasn’t credited in the final game. Microsoft Flight Simulator is to receive a new world update focused on the United States and a closed virtual reality beta this year. Head ofMicrosoftFlight SimulatorJorg Neumann revealed what’s in store for the game over the coming months in a Twitch stream. “I would like to announce that our world update two will feature the United States and we will launch this later this year,”he said. Microsoft has seemingly fixed the matchmaking servers for 2007’s Shadowrun on Xbox 360. The game, servers for which were never officially taken down, was seemingly taken offline thanks to a fix toXboxLive whichfixed older Call of Duty titles. Following this, matchmaking for the title would no longer work.
