Electronic Arts’ studios boss has explained how she believes the firm’s next-gen console games will “feel different” and “set a new bar in terms of player expectations.” Speaking toGamesIndustry.biz,Laura Mielesaid that the key to the new consoles was not necessarily how its games would look, but how they were going to feel thanks to improvements in memory and CPU power. “Historically, console transitions have been punctuated by increased graphic fidelity and that hasn’t changed — this next generation of games will certainly take a visual leap — but we are also taking advantage of the extra memory and CPU cycles to bring a lot more detail to life,” she said....

Familiar faces took the top two spots on the European software sales chart in May. EA Sports FC 24charted at No.1, followed byGrand Theft Auto 5and F1 2024. WhileEA’s racing game was the highest new entry on the chart, its launch sales were down 35% compared to last year’s F1 game. EA is hiring developers to join its new Seattle-based studio in order to work on a future Battlefield single-player campaign. According to thejob listing, the studio is looking to build “rich, exciting stories with memorable characters and powerful experiences all in the Battlefield universe”. ARC Raiders will be released on Jun 05, 2025, developer and publisher Embark Studios has announced. A release date reveal trailer for the Unreal Engine 5 game premiered atSummer Game Feston Friday and is viewable below. The director of the Fatal Frame series says he’d like to consider remastering older titles following the fan reaction to news that the fifth game was getting a remaster. Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water was originally released exclusively forWii Uin 2014 butis being ported to all current formats. In an interview withJP Games,Makoto Shibatawas asked if he had plans to remaster older games in the series, or release a new collection of them, given their relative rarity....

Xbox has created another promotional item designed to look like one of its consoles, and this time it’s a suitcase. A collaboration betweenXboxAustralia & New Zealand and luggage company July, the Xbox Series S suitcase looks like the console, right down to the black circular vent on the side. The suitcase was sent to a number of Australian influencers to promote today’s console release ofMicrosoftFlight Simulator. Publisher Activision Blizzard has been accused of discriminating against “old white guys,” by a former executive. As reported byLaw360(spotted byGamesIndustry.biz), a lawsuit has been filed by a former executive who worked for the publishing giant from 2014. The unnamed executive was laid off as part of restructuring plans within the company last year. The argument includes statements allegedly made by outgoingActivision BlizzardbossBobby Kotickduring a leadership conference wherein he said that “there are too many old white guys,” at the company....

A former Rockstar developer has shared new details about the fate of the studio’s cancelled spy game Agent. Announced as aPlayStation 3exclusive at E3 2009, the game was planned to take place in a 1970s Cold War setting, but it was ultimately abandoned for being “too much of a distraction” from the company’s work on Grand Theft Auto. That’s according to former technical director Obbe Vermeij, who spent 14 years withRockstar Northbefore leaving in 2009....
