The Epic Games Store is currently giving away Metro 2033 Redux free of charge. As part of an ongoing promotion, the digital distribution platform is set to offerone free title every day until December 31. It has already given away Cities: Skylines, Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty, The Long Dark, DefenseGrid: The Awakening and Alien Isolation. According to a recent leakwhich has so far been accurate, it’s also set to give away Tropico 5, Inside, Darkest Dungeon, My Time in Portia, Night in the Woods, Stranded Deep, Solitairica, Torchlight 2 and Jurassic World Evolution....

The Epic Games Store will give away 17 free games over the Christmas period. That’s according to reliable leakerbillbil-kun, who claims the promotion will launch today alongside theEpic Games Store’s Holiday Sale. The dataminer has identified the first of the mystery giveaways asDestiny2: Legacy Collection, which will be available to claim from 8am PT / 11am ET / 4pm GMT on Wednesday. The title includes three expansions forBungie‘s free-to-play game: The Witch Queen, Beyond Light and Shadowkeep....

The former lead designer of PS5 adventure game Kena: Bridge of Spirits has alleged that he was “maliciously” forced out early in the project’s development and shared his “grief” upon seeing its recent reveal. Brandon Popovich, a programmer and designer with experience working with studios such asInsomniacand Skydance, claimed that he had created “95%” of Kena’s code at the point of leavingEmber Lab, the creator of Kena, in 2017. Popovich alleged that at least some of his work went unpaid and that he was promised a long-term role by Ember Lab, but he turned it down after his offer was significantly reduced....

Yasuyuki Oda isn’t just one of SNK’s most experienced game designers, he’s the man who arguably more than any other, has spearheaded its recent revival. The Japanese fighting game company is a legendary name in the scene, having created genre titans such as Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury, Samurai Shodown and The King of Fighters. But its history is fractured by a 2001 bankruptcy which saw most of its creators scattered to the wind, and its influence over the scene majorly reduced for over a decade....

The name of It Takes Two studio Hazelight’s next game has seemingly been revealed by a reliable insider. Last week creative directorJosef Faresteased the studio’s next co-op game, posting a messgae on X in which he called it “a brand new IP called S**** ******N”. This post was then quoted by the officialHazelightaccount, which posted a redacted image of a script, with various notes and post-its including the phrase “co-op”, suggesting the studio will continue the multiplayer-only nature of its previous titles....

Microsoft has launched the new Xbox Game Pass Standard plan for all players. The service’s latest membership tier includes access to a back catalogue of hundreds of games and online console multiplayer, but no day one first-party releases or cloud gaming. Replacing the now retired Game Pass for Console tier, the Standard plan is available for $14.99 / £10.99 per month. The Standard tierwas first announced in Julyand was previously available in preview form forXboxInsiders....

The next game in the EA Originals line of ‘indie’ titles has been leaked. Dealabsuser billbil-kun, who has been reliably leaking game information for years, says the publisher’s next game will be calledTales of Kenzera: ZAU. The game will be developed bySurgent Studios, a UK-based transmedia studio whosigned a deal with EA back in March 2021when it was known as Silver Rain Games. PC players can currently claim Rayman Raving Rabbids free of charge through Ubisoft Connect. Normally priced at $9.99 / £4.29 onUbisoft’s store, the title isavailable freeuntil January 23. Originally released in 2006, it marked the debut of the Rabbids, who initially featured as antagonists in the Rayman series. The game is being given away as part of Ubisoft’s Lunar Sale, which runs until February 1. PCplayers can also currently download Epistory – Typing Chroniclesfree from the Epic Games Store until January 26....

The Wii Shop Channel and DSi Shop are back online after being inaccessible for almost four months. The online marketplaceswent offline without prior warning in mid-March. A week later,NintendotoldEurogamerthe online marketplaces were “undergoing maintenance” and said it would “provide an update at a later date”. While further explanation for the downtime hasn’t been provided since,GameXplainreported today that both the Wii Shop Channel andNintendo DSi Shop are online again. While theNintendo WiiShop Channel stopped allowing new purchases in 2019, the ability to re-download previously purchased content was not affected....

Beta testing for World of Warcraft’s next expansion, The War Within, begins on June 5, Blizzard has announced. Players who purchase or who upgrade to theEpicEdition of the expansion will be able to gain immediate access to the beta and a minimum three-day early access to The War Within. In April,Blizzard opened registrationfor the chance to participate in the beta. Players selected to take part will receive an email invitation directing them to download the game client directly from the Battle....

Ubisoft has announced the launch line-up of games for PC subscription service Uplay+. Revealed during the publisher’s E3 conference, Uplay+ will provide unlimited access toUbisoft‘s back catalogue ofover 100 games, plus upcoming releases likeWatch Dogs Legion,Ghost Recon Breakpointand Rainbow Six Quarantine, for $14.99/€14.99 per month. Uplay+ is scheduled to launch onPCon September 3, before being made available onStadiain 2020.Ubisoft hasn’t ruled out launching Uplay+ on consoles. At launch, Uplay+ will include more than 40 premium editions, providing access to additional content on top of the base game, although Ubisoft says this may not include all premium content....

Valve’s upcoming multiplayer game Deadlock already has cheaters, despite not being officially released yet. The multiplayer title, which has been a “friends and family” closed beta for some time, was something of an open secret for quite some time untilValve finally officially announcedit last month. However, although the game has still to get a proper release date, videos have already emerged of closed beta users seemingly using cheat software....
