The International Olympics Committee (IOC) has announced that qualification for the Olympic Esports Series 2023 begins today. The series is a “global and virtual simulated sports competition” created by the IOC and run in collaboration with official sporting federations. Nine sports will be represented in this year’s event, with games such asGran Turismoand Just Dance featuring. Professional and amateur players form around the world are invited to take part in qualifying for each event starting from today, with the finals to take place at live, in-person events in Singapore’s Suntec Centre on June 22-25....

This year’s main Summer Game Fest presentation has now ended. A number of new games were announced over the course of its two-hour runtime, as well as new trailers for previously known titles. Retro fans were treated to new 2.5D games in the Sonic and Prince of Persia franchises, while gorehounds got the firstMortal Kombat 1footage and a new game from horror legend John Carpenter. Meanwhile, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth got a new trailer, along with news that it will arrive on two discs....

IO Interactive has detailed Hitman 3’s content roadmap for March 2021, which includes the game’s first seasonal event. Running from March 30 until April 12, the Berlin Egg Hunt challenges players to locate various eggs around the German location. While Berlin’s main attraction is a nightclub set in a disused power plant,IO says“all the action takes place in the less-explored surrounding areas” including the woodland. The sixth and final Deluxe Escalation, Satu Mare Delirium, will also launch on March 30....

An upcoming art book could point to the release date of Hogwarts Legacy. “The Art and Making ofHogwarts Legacy” is set to be published by Insight Editions on May 16, 2025. As spotted byThe Rowling Library, the book is authored by Jody Revenson, who has previously written “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore Movie Magic” and “Harry Potter Paper Craft”. September 1 is the date in the Harry Potter books that students return to Hogwarts, making a September release fitting....

Xbox premieredthe first Halo Infinite gameplayduring its Games Showcase on Thursday, with a demo that was more than partially evocative of the classic games. It looks like Redfall’s physical release will include a download code for the game instead of a disc. Sony has announced the first wave of new games coming to the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium tiers. From July 19,PlayStationPlus Extra and Premium members will be able to playStray,Final Fantasy VII RemakeIntergrade,Marvel’s Avengers, fiveAssassin’s Creedgames and twoSaints Rowtitles. PlayStation Plus Premium members will also gain access to two more classic games on the same date: No Heroes Allowed! and LocoRoco Midnight Carnival. The Lego Group and Epic Games have announced that they’re teaming up to make the metaverse safe for children. In a joint statement, the two companies revealed that they had entered a long-term partnership “to shape the future of the metaverse to make it safe and fun for children and families”. What exactly this entails hasn’t been made clear, as the definition of ‘the metaverse’ appears to change depending on the company or individual discussing it....

Link will be a playable character in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, it’s been revealed. Confirmation that players will be able to assume the role of Link comes via the US Entertainment Software Rating Board. “This is an adventure game in which players assume the role of Zelda as she attempts to dispel rifts throughout Hyrule and rescue Link,” reads the classification board’srating summaryof Echoes of Wisdom....

Activision has confirmed plans for a Gundam crossover in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone Season 4. “Gundam comes to Call of Duty in Season 4”, it said in a post on X. Plans for the Gundam crossover were previously uncovered by dataminers, who also found references tocrossovers with Fallout and The Crow in Season 4, which will launch on May 29.
