Former Sonic Team head Yuji Naka has posted another Twitter rant about the development of Balan Wonderworld, following his decision to edit an old photo to remove his creative partner on that game. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Nintendo Switch 2 edition won’t come with the DLC. These are rereleases of Nintendo Switch games with enhancements, such as graphical improvements or extra content. A senior lawyer at Nintendo has given an explanation of what makes an emulator illegal, particularly when it comes to more recent releases. As reported byDenfaminicogamer, a recent lecture hosted by Japan’s Association of Copyright for Computer Software was attended byNintendo‘s patent attorney and IP department general manager Koji Nishiura. While the lecture – which also included contributions from IP executives atSega,CapcomandKonamiamong others – focused on a number of topics, one of these was the issue of emulation....

Unity has partially walked back on controversial monetisation plans for its popular game engine. Last week the software development companyannounced plans to charge developersevery time a game that uses its Unity engine is installed. Starting in January 2024, the proposed Unity Runtime Fee would apply to games that meet a minimum revenue threshold and have passed a minimum lifetime install count. Following a huge backlash from game developers, Unity later issued an apology andsaid it planned to make changes to the policywhich it would communicate in the coming days....

Electronic Arts will reportedly release a remastered version of Battlefield 3 alongside the next mainline entry in DICE’s FPS series. That’s according to content creatorDaqarie, who previously leaked a significant number of Battlefield 1 and Battlefield 5 details which turned out to be accurate. The channel claims the Battlefield 3 remaster will come with all of the DLC packs that followed the original game’s 2011 release, including Back to Karkand, Close Quarters, Armored Kill, Aftermath and End Game....

A modder who was working on a large mod for Sonic Origins has abandoned the project, declaring the game to be “absolute shit”. The modder, who goes by the name Xanman, was working on a mod they were callingBetterOrigins, which promised to fix a number of bugs and other issues being reported by the Sonic community. However, the mod has now been abandoned (as spotted byTheGamer), as Xanman says the modding process has made it clear to them that the game is in a poor state....

A new Nintendo Direct showcase could be held next week, it’s been claimed. Asked about speculation that aNintendo Directpresentation could take place this month, Giant Bomb reporter Jeff Grubb said he’d heard that a showcase is planned for the week beginning on February 6. “Everything I’m hearing—and it’s all just sort of reiterating it—it continues to be the week of February 6,”he said. “Over and over and over again, every little detail I get is, basically, a week from now we should begin hearing about all this stuff....

Amazon has revealed this month’s wave of ‘free’ games on Prime Gaming. This month’s games include Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga andSaints Row: Gat Out of Hell. Prime Gaming, which is included as part of an Amazon Prime subscription, lets members claim a selection ofPC gamesevery month, to claim and keep. This means players will continue to have access to Prime Gaming titles even if they cancel their Amazon Prime subscription....

A major games industry analysis firm has lowered its Switch 2 sales forecast, but still thinks it’ll be the fastest selling console ever despite this. DFC Intelligence, which has been covering the games and digital media industry since 1994, has published its updated insights on theSwitch 2‘s launch. The firm had previously forecast thatNintendowould sell 17 million Switch 2 consoles by the end of 2025, but it has now revised this down to 15 million consoles due to concerns over pricing in the wake of US president Donald Trump’s wave of tariffs....

Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ world map is “roughly similar” in size to Egypt in Assassin’s Creed Origins. That’s according to Simon Lemay-Comtois, associate game director atUbisoft Quebec, who discussed the scope of the game’s Japanese setting during an interview with VGC following theUbisoftForward showcase on Monday. “It’s about roughly similar to Origins, so it’s smaller than Valhalla in terms of territory,” he said. “There is some body of water around Japan, but it’s not like [Odyssey’s] Greece was, [which was] half water....

Jackass star and skateboarder Bam Margera will seemingly not be a part of the roster for the upcoming Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 remakes. Margera, who made a name for himself as a member of the Jackass and CKY crews, as well as a skater for the brand Element, could be the only member of the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 rosters not returning for the new game (discounting third-party guest characters)....

BioWare has cautioned fans not to get too excited about its plans for N7 Day on November 7. The studio established N7 Day in 2012 and it has since become a yearly celebration of the Mass Effect series and its community. In 2020,BioWareused N7 Day toannounce it was working on a new Mass Effectgame, as well asMass Effect Legendary Edition.
