Microsoft has launched Xbox’s Black Friday 2024 deals online. On the hardware front, players can save $50 on the standardXbox Series Xconsole through November 23. The same discount will be applied to the standardXboxSeries S console from November 21 through December 2. Select Xbox wireless controllers will be discounted by $10 from November 21 until December 2, and from December 13-22. On the software front,Microsoft saidover 1,000 games have been discounted until December 2, with savings of up to 55% on Xbox titles and up to 60% onPC games....

The producer behind SNK’s biggest fighting franchises has claimed there’s interest from “all sides” in reviving the cult-classic SNK vs. Capcom series. The classic crossover fighting game, which sees characters from The King of Fighters duke with familiarStreet Fightercombatants, hasn’t seen a proper instalment since 2003, partly due toSNK’s bankruptcy in the early 00s and pivot to pachislot machines. Capcomreleased two arcade and console fighting games featuring its one-time genre rival in 2000 and 2001, while SNK released portable games, card game spin offs, and one arcade fighter during the same era....

The next game in the Monster Hunter franchise has seemingly leaked via Discord. In a now-deleted tweet, user @neonaga99 pointed out that by experimenting with Discord’s backend while using the developer-mode build of the platform, it was possible to activate some placeholder events scheduled for later in the year. While these were mostly blank, one of them invited players to claim a code for ‘Monster Hunter Paradise’, seemingly confirming the title of the next game in the series....

A closed beta for Amazon’s upcoming MMORPG New World is reportedly bricking some players’ graphics cards. Athread on the game’s subreddittitled “did theNew WorldBeta brick your GPU?” has over 250 comments with numerous players reporting that their graphics cards have become completely broken while playing the game. All the players reporting the issue have been using RTX 3090 cards. It appears that almost all of the bricking incidents have occurred specifically with EVGA RTX 3090 cards, but players with other brands of RTX 3090 have also been reporting extreme overheating and dangerous levels of power consumption....

An Elden Ring player has found a way to enter the game’s mysterious colosseum. Ubisoft has announced a new Assassin’s Creed Mirage feature titled ‘History of Baghdad’. Billed as an interactive way to learn about the history, art and culture of Baghdad and the Abbasid Caliphate circa the ninth century, it’s integrated into the main game and tied to player progression, with an in-game reward unlocked for protagonist Basim once completed. Players can visit 66 historical sites throughout Baghdad, where they’ll unlock research-driven articles covering five areas: art and science, belief and daily life, court life, economy and government....

Bandai Namco has officially announced Studio 2 & Studio S, its internal studio that works with Nintendo on commissioned projects. The team has already been active for a number of years, and has worked on such titles as Super Smash Bros for 3DS &Wii U, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Mario Kart 8, Mario Kart Deluxe,Mario Kart Tour, Arms and Mario Sports Superstars. Bethesda’s original founder, American software developer Christopher Weaver, has commented on his former company’s sale to Microsoft, stating that he believes users will be the real winners in the $7.5bn deal. Weaver was instrumental in the creation of the first Elder Scrolls games, and foundedBethesdain 1986 and its parent Zenimax Media in 1999. He officially left the company in 2002 and was its largest shareholder until the late 2000s. Former Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has said the company’s decision to acquire British Project Gotham Racing studio Bizarre Creations was a bad one. The accalimed Liverpool-based studio, which was closed in 2011, was best known for its racing games. After developing the first two Formula 1 games on the PS1, it went on to create cult classic Metropolis Street Racer on the Dreamcast, which was notable for its realistic recreations of real-world cities....

Xbox maker Microsoft hasn’t mandated the use of generative AI across its game studios, despite its recent push for AI use in gaming. That’s according toSouth of MidnightcreatorCompulsion Games, which was asked about generative AI use followingMicrosoft’s recent announcement of its own generative AI model in gaming, which it’s used to power, among other things,a demo version of Quake 2. According to Compulsion CEO Guillaume Provost, Microsoft isn’t demanding its first-party teams to use the technology and, according to him, the studio is unlikely to use AI much at all in the future....

A listing for Sonic Origins has appeared on the Australia and New Zealand PlayStation Store, revealing new information on the upcoming compilation.
