Super Smash Bros director Masahiro Sakurai has teased an upcoming video project with another YouTube channel. Since completing Smash Bros. Ultimate’s extensive DLC run last year, Sakurai has been runninghis new YouTube channelin which he shares game design tips. The channel, which is namedMasahiro Sakuraion Creating Games, mostly focuses on the games Sakurai himself worked on, with other games cited as examples. However, although further details have yet to be confirmed, it appears that Sakurai will soon be teaming up with another popular YouTube channel to focus on games other than those he worked on....

Microsoft has announced Edge Game Assist, a way for players to get tips and guides while playing PC games. Described as a “seamless, full-featured in-game browser”, Game Assist lets players bring up a bespoke version of the Edge browser as part of the Game Bar overlay. The browser is game-aware, meaning if the player has a compatible game running the browser will automatically suggest tips and guides for that particular game....

Microsoft Gaming and NetEase have entered into an agreement to explore bringing new NetEase games to Xbox consoles and other platforms. The agreement between theXboxmaker and the Chinese gaming giant was announced alongside the news thatBlizzard’s titles will be made available again in China. Activision Blizzard, which had held licensing agreements withNetEasesince 2008,pulled its games from the Chinese market last January. But followingMicrosoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard last year, the companies have struck a renewed publishing deal that will the Warcraft studio’s games return to the Chinese market sequentially, starting this summer....

Microsoft has announced Ori and the Will of the Wisps for Nintendo Switch – and it’s available to purchase digitally from today. The platformer is available on theNintendoeShop for $29.99 / €29.99. In addition, a physical Collector’s Edition of the game will be released via publisher IAm8Bit for Switch,Xbox OneandPCand isavailable for pre-order now. It includes physical editions of both Ori games, a “stained glass style” art piece, Sketchbook Zine and more....

Microsoft’s planned acquisition of Activision Blizzard is being investigated by the UK’s competition regulator. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), which “works to promote competition for the benefit of consumers”, announced today that it has opened an investigation into the$68.7 billion deal—the game industry’sbiggest ever by some distance—to determine whether it’s a fair one. In a statement provided toCNBC, the CMA said its investigation would “consider whether the deal could harm competition and lead to worse outcomes for consumers – for example, through higher prices, lower quality, or reduced choice....

MultiVersus has seen over 100K concurrent players return to the game following its relaunch. According to independentSteamtrackerSteamDB, the game has seen 114,515 concurrent players return to the game. This is almost 75% of the game’s all-time peak at the game’s original launch. MultiVersuswas a hit at launch, seeing 153,433 concurrent players on Steam at its peak. Despite this, a dwindling player base and other issues saw the game close down for almost a year....

Netflix has shown the first teaser trailer for its anime series set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will be 10 episodes long and will be a standalone story set in the game’s Night City region. Animation is being handled by Tokyo-based Studio Trigger, and the show is directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi (Kill la Kill). The next batch of Pokémon Horizons episodes is now available in English for the first time. The new episodes of the anime series, which aired at the end of last year in Japan, continues the story of the second season of thePokémonHorizons series. The latest trailer for Funko Fusion shows the Nope stage in action. Jordan Peele’s horror movie is one of more than 20 IPs that will feature in the game, most of which are Universal Pictures movies and TV series. Others include Back to the future, M3gan, The Mummy, Scott Pilgrim, Child’s Play, Shaun of the Dead, Jaws, The Walking Dead, Xena Warrior Princess and The Thing. A piece of small print from Nintendo may have confirmed the existence of enhanced Switch 2 versions of existing Switch games. TodayNintendoannounced a new Virtual Game Card system, which allows players to turn digital games in their Switch library to virtual cartridges, which can then be transferred to another system or rented out to family members. However, the small print on an information page about the Virtual Game Card system appeared to suggest that some Switch games may be getting upgrades for the more powerful Switch 2....

Switch has surpassed lifetime N64 sales, according to the latest market data from platform holder Nintendo.
