Star Wars and Dune actor Oscar Isaac will reportedly play Solid Snake in the planned Metal Gear Solid movie.
According to a new report byDeadline, Isaac has been attached to lead theSonyPictures adaptation, which has been in development under director Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) for some years.
It’s worth noting that the Metal Gear film has been in development for almost a decade and could yet, like so many video game movie adaptations, fail to materialise as a final product.
However, fans can take positivity from the recent wave of successful video game movies, includingSonic the HedgehogandDetective Pikachu. TheUnchartedmovie – another adaptation that had been in production for years –recently started filming.
Last yearSony Interactive Entertainment created a new production studiospecifically to adapt its original game properties for film and television.
The new unit,PlayStationProductions, is headed up by Sony’s veteran marketeer Asad Qizilbash and overseen by SIE chairman of worldwide studios Shawn Layden.
While it’s based out of the Sony Pictures lot in California and is set to receive distribution help from its sister company, the business will handle production of all adaptations in-house.
