Netflix is to produce a new animated series based on the video game Cuphead.
Titled TheCupheadShow!, it’s being created in partnership with game developerStudio MDHRand print syndication company King Features.
“The character-driven comedy follows the unique misadventures of the impulsive Cuphead and his cautious but easily swayed brother Mugman,” according to a press release.
“Through their many misadventures across their surreal home of the Inkwell Isles, they’ve always got one another’s backs.”
Released in 2017 onPCandXbox One, before making its way toSwitchearlier this year, Cuphead has been widely praised for its art direction and boss battles.
The run and gun 2D platformer has won a string of high-profile awards and has sold over four million copies worldwide.
Studio MDHR recentlydelayed the release Cuphead’s Delicious Last Course expansionfrom this year to 2020, in order to give it more time to focus on creating a quality product while maintaining a healthy work/life balance for its employees.
It also announced in March that it was working withMicrosoftto investigatebringing Xbox Live features to the Switch version of Cuphead.
