Activision has officially taken the wraps of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Alongside the release of the game’s debut trailer, which is viewable below, the publisher announced details on theInfinity Ward-developed sequel’s campaign, multiplayer, Spec Ops mode andWarzone 2.0.
TheCall of Duty Modern Warfare 2 release dateis July 29, 2025, whileWarzone 2.0 will arrive “later this year”.
Both titles will be available forPS5,PS4,Xbox Series X/S,Xbox One, andPCvia Battle.net andSteam.
Modern Warfare 2’s campaign promises a globe-trotting operation spanning missions in Europe, Asia and the Americas.
It will include “offshore sieges with underwater combat, all-out explosive assaults from 30,000 feet above enemy strongholds, and high-stakes, low-profile stealth missions in both plain sight and under the cover of darkness”.
Activision claims: “Modern Warfare II features a physically based material system allowing for state-of-the-art photogrammetry, a new hybrid tile-based streaming system, a new PBR decal rendering system, world volumetric lighting, 4K HDR, as well as a new GPU geometry pipeline. All of this is in service of a massive cinematic Campaign.
“The game also features a new advanced AI system. Enemies and friendlies alike across Campaign and Special Ops act tactically using combat and cover maneuvering techniques that would be second nature to a Tier 1 Operator.”

Modern Warfare 2 will also include an “evolved” version of Special Ops, the returning tactical co-op mode previously featured in multiple Modern Warfare games.
Multiplayer will feature a revamped Gunsmith offering greater customisation options, andActivisionhas promised “a massive amount of free post-launch content drops featuring new maps, modes, and blockbuster special events”.
Call of Duty’s Ricochet anti-cheat systemwill be available for both Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0 at launch.
