Microsoft plans to let players customise the appearance of Xbox Series X consoles in the future.
The plans were revealed during an internal document included as part of a leak of unredacted court documents published overnight (seemingly by accident).
The document, which highlightsMicrosoft‘s mid-gen plans, mainly focuses on its planned mid-gen refreshes of theXbox Series Xand Series S hardware (codenamed Brooklin and Ellewood respectively), and its new controller design (codenamed Sebile).
However, it also makes reference to a new project, codenamed Uther, which will allow players to order an Xbox Series X console throughXboxDesign Lab.
Xbox Design Labcurrently focuses solely on controllers, and lets players customise their own Xbox WirelessController or Xbox Elite Wireless Controller 2.
Players can choose the colours of every element of the controller, including the main shell, analogue sticks, buttons, triggers, shoulder buttons, grips and menu buttons.
If Microsoft’s plans come to fruition, the same will eventually be possible with actual Xbox Series X consoles.

The document also contains a spec sheet comparing the upcoming Ellewood revision of Xbox Series S, the Brooklin revision of Xbox Series X and the Uther project (Xbox Series X in Design Lab).
Brooklin and Uther have identical specs, including the new features being added to Brooklin such as 2TB of storage and Wi-Fi 6E, suggesting the Series X consoles featured in Xbox Design Lab will be the new Brooklin revisions.
It’s not yet clear if players will also be able to customise a controller to accompany their console, but the document does point out that the new Sebile controller bundled with Brooklin will be coming to Xbox Design Lab too.
