Microsoft is reportedly planning to cut thousands of jobs imminently.

According toSky News, the latest round of layoffs at the US technology giant could see it axe roughly 5% of its 220,000-person workforce, which would equate to some 11,000 jobs.

Bloombergis also reporting thatMicrosoftintends to cut jobs in a number of engineering divisions on Wednesday.

Microsoft hasconfirmed plans to lay off approximately 10,000 employees.

While the scale of the cuts is unclear, a source said to be familiar with Microsoft’s plans told the publication that the number of layoffs would be significantly greater than other rounds made by the company over the past year.

Microsoft laid off around 1,000 employeesacross the company, including staff working for itsXboxdivision, in October 2022.

The company is planning to report its second quarter earnings on January 24.
