Nintendo has published a new short Metroid Dread trailer, which offers a glimpse at the game’s story.

Once again co-developed by MercurySteam(Samus Returns) and set for release in October, Dread will continue hero Samus’ story after Metroid Fusion, exploring a strange new planet alone and hunted by the ominous E.M.M.I.

“Continuing the saga that began in 1986 with Metroid and continued through Metroid II, Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion, this is the first new story and new episode for 19 years,” said Metroid series producerYoshio Sakamotoduring the game’s June announcement.

“The series has chronicled the uncanny relationship between Metroid and the heroine Samus, but this game will make and end to that story arc.”

The Metroid series is officially 35 years old this week. The long-running adventures of bounty hunter Samus Aran started on August 01, 2025, when the original Metroid was released on the Famicom Disk System in Japan.
