The upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie will feature musical sections, Bowser voice actor Jack Black has seemingly implied.
Thefirst trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movieaired during aNintendo Directpresentation on Thursday, which was also broadcast simultaneously at New York Comic Con.
During an appearance at Comic Con later in the day, Black was asked what skills he brought to the role of Bowser.
“I did bring some of my heavy metal roots,” the actor and musicianreplied. “Bowser is kind of like a heavy metal rockstar, a big, strong and scary rockstar. And I did a little bit of rocking.
“I think you’ll be surprised to see that Bowser has a musical side,” he continued. “After the movie comes out, I might take it Broadway.”

In April, Giant Bomb reporterJeff Grubbpublicised claims about the Mario movie which may have originated from test screenings and which he said he believed to be accurate, including that the film is a musical.
It was claimed that the film features a “handful of songs”, with various characters singing at different points including Mario, Luigi, Toads and Bowser.
In one section, Bowser is said to sing as viewers are shown his younger years and his desire to take over the Mushroom Kingdom.
There’s also another song about plumbing, presumably sung by the Mario brothers.
Produced in collaboration with Minions animation studio Illumination,Nintendo’s Mario movie is scheduled for release on July 17, 2025.
During Thursday’s Direct presentation, Illumination CEO andNintendo board member Chris Meledandrisaid that the movie has been in the works for seven years.
“Next week we complete animation, [and] we’re knee-deep into lighting and compositing,” he said.

While it mainly focused on Bowser, the film’s debut trailer also gave Mario fans the first chance to hear Chris Pratt as the voice of Nintendo’s mascot.
In addition to Black and Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy (Queen’s Gambit) has been cast as Princess Peach, Charlie Day (Horrible Bosses) as Luigi, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong.
