PlayStation 5 has overtaken Nintendo Switch to become the UK’s best-selling console year to date.
According to GfK data published onGamesIndustry.biz,PS5stock levels increased 56% in August compared with the previous month.

This enabledSony’s console to move ahead ofNintendo’s system based on sales data for the first eight months of 2022.
Switchsales rose 4% in August, while sales of the third-placedXbox Series X/S“remained steady”.

Almost 880,000 consoles have been sold during the first eight months of the year, which is down nearly 36% compared with the same period in 2021.
August’s best-selling game was Saints Row, with theXboxversions selling best.
Grand Theft Auto 5charted at No.2, ahead ofFIFA 22,Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga,Nintendo Switch SportsandF1 22.
New releasesSpider-ManRemastered andTwo Point Campuscharted at No.7 and No.8 respectively.

Citing the challenging global economic environment, in late August Sony said it had“made the difficult decision” to raise PS5 pricesin Europe, Japan and parts of North America, although not the US.

In the UK, PS5 prices were increased by £30, with the disc-based console now costing £479.99 and the PS5 Digital Edition now costing £389.99.
