Id Software’s studio head, Tim Willits has announced he will leave the studio this month, after 24-years at the company.

“After 24 years, I’ve decided to leaveid SoftwareafterQuakeCon,” he wrote onTwitter.

“I’ve been extremely lucky to work with the best people in the industry on truly amazing games. QuakeCon has been an unbelievable part of my journey and I look forward to seeing everyone at the Gaylord Texan.”

The designer added that he feels all of Id’s in-development titles are “in very good hands” and insisted that his departure will not affect any planned releases.

“Id Software is packed full of amazing talent that will continue to develop (long into the future) some of the best shooters in the world,” he wrote.

“After QuakeCon I will announce my future plans, where I am going, and what new exciting things I am doing. Stay tuned.”

Tim Willitsjoined id Software in 1995 after impressing the company with Doom levels he created and distributed for free over the internet.

He went on to work on almost 20 titles, including every game in the Quake series. Willits was lead designers for Doom 3 and creative director for Rage.

QuakeCon is set to be held on July 26 and 27 in Dallas, Texas and in London, UK.
